How many K-01 owners here?

There will be a point where I can't resist a K-01, basically for use as a studio camera for copying and small product shots. On a tripod, using the back screen is a very effective way to set these up. It might also be useful for flower studies - composing on the screen is an effective way of avo...

How many K-01 owners here?

When it comes down to it if you're familiar with the equipment you're using and can use it well, you can get good results out of something most would consider 'unsuitable'. Using a Samsung Galaxy S2 and Instagram, I've captured some cracking shots of my 18 month old son going down the slide in th...

Any really good Q kit bags turned up yet?

In the end I couldn't see anything that seemed to be any improvement, for my specs at least, on the bag already recommended by JohnRiley ( ) so I have plumped for that8). I've got a short break (a week) coming up shortly, sailing off Turkey, and we are flying budget so tight baggage allowance- thi...

Pentax Q vs Digiscoping

I bought a Q (but no Q lenses !) specifically for this purpose. I'm afraid as a birder it just doesn't work as the camera shake induced blur when hand-held just destroys the image. I tested it with a Zeiss 85/1.4 and the Tamron 90/2.8 to give 467.5 / 495mm, amongst other lenses. Didn't even bother t...

Pentax Q vs Digiscoping

Some remarks: I own some pretty good lenses with f < = 4.5, which imho is a prerequisite for acceptable extreme telephoto shots with the Q (due to: diffraction, demanding sensor - small pixel size). There also is no SR with the cheap Q-K-adapters and you have to be aware of the equivalent focal leng...

K01 with K Mount Lens - Advice please

I'm tempted by current K01 prices, and want to check out a couple of things before taking the plunge No. 1 I currently use a Samsung GX10, sometimes with old 50mm f1.7, and 28mm f2.8 manual focus lenses, with no 'A' position on the aperture ring. I set exposure by setting required aperture on ...

K01 with K Mount Lens - Advice please

Peter I have just purchased a K-01 because my GX10 is too bulky. It has a green button that you can use to set the correct speed for any given combination of aperture/ISO like other models (unlike others it can also be customised for something else if you're not using manual lenses). You can al...

K01 - Video Playback

Thinking of getting a K01, have only ever done stills photography. Having shot HD video with K01, I assume I can play it back through a HD ready TV via HDMI lead connecting camera to TV (possibly lead is optional extra) is this correct? Stupid question, but what is best way to play back video on T...

K01 - Video Playback

Thanks for the info everybody, I'm sure I'll find a way of making it work for me. Tony, your comment about video being much easier with the K01 is I think the straw that will break my credit card's back I feel another call to those nice people at SRS coming on

K01 - Video Playback

Going back to your OP Peter, if you don't have the latest TV, or don't want to spend time editing the vidoes on a computer and burning discs, then yes, you can buy a cable and connect directly from the camera to the TV (cable is 'mini HDMI one end, normal HDMI other end). The playback screen on the ...

K01 - Video Playback

Great news! Need a few more converts on here. I've been going mad buying manual lenses as I've finally got a camera I can focus manually with and nail it every time! I'm sure by now you've discovered the delights of focus peaking with your manual lenses. Have fun :D

K01 - Video Playback

Great news! Need a few more converts on here. Might be plenty of users who are not active forum members. I first tried to order on Wednesday, and SRS were sold out of all colours. Rang back Friday, hoping there had been a delivery, obviously there had as the Silver was now in, but only one left, t...

K-01 Manual Focus Zoom Behaviour

I have noticed that when I first use the OK button to zoom the screen for focussing in manual mode, it rather bizzarely uses the top left of the frame rather than the middle. It only does this with manual lenses - if I attach an AF lens and use manual focus, then the initial setting for the zoom is ...

K-01 Manual Focus Zoom Behaviour

I hope you find that somethings set wrong... It will be a disgrace if a camera without a viewfinder can't be used properly without a viewfinder

K-01 Manual Focus Zoom Behaviour

Well, to be fair this is an option that is ONLY available through a screen. I don't think any Pentax offers up to 6x magnification through the viewfinder (though I may be wrong!) Someone from over the pond has just confirmed their's does the same, so looks like a bug - although I work in IT and the...

K-01 Manual Focus Zoom Behaviour

They don't magnify through the viewfinder, but the green hexagon and beep is available which ever since the days of the MEF has been the most accurate way of focusing a Pentax camera..... just nobody is interested enough to suss out what is accurate and what isn't. I've not used focus peaking...

K-01 Manual Focus Zoom Behaviour

Just been looking at the instruction manual, and the picture on page 101 shows the magnified image going to the bottom left after pressing the OK button. It then advises you can centre it with the green button. So perhaps it really is a feature
