Raindrops on leaves

Lovely use of selective focus Jonathan. ...agreed, and so much more impressive at the larger sizes on Flickr

Morning Dew

I've struggled to get the motivation to photograph anything creatively for a few months and this was my first "forced" attempt for a while. Let's hope things change  Keep looking small. There's such a lot to be seen, mostly unlike things on the large scale, much of it almost magical and som...

Raindrops Keep Falling...

There have been a couple of recent threads with photos of water droplets on leaves and other things in the garden. With the recent rain it seemed appropriate to add another one. This one is drizzle on agrimony (and yes, on my head, too  ). A few years ago a single agrimony plant set up home n...

Hypericum Flowers

Most of the year this is just a big, boring, green shrub. Then it flowers. And when low, evening sun catches the flowers they acquire a glorious glow which invites me to get the camera out. This year, I've experimented with a couple of lenses that are not my usual choices for garden flowers. The fir...

Hypericum Flowers

I thought to myself, reading that, "the 200 is going to something special". And indeed it is. Bit of a beast deciding where to put the focus (you used the stamens) but the overall result, with that bokeh, is very very nice.

Hypericum Flowers

Thanks. I must admit to being pleasantly surprised by what the M 200mm can do with the right subject. PIty that the minimum focus distance is so long compared with more modern lenses, for that reason alone it won't be replacing my usual 'flower lenses'. But it's nice to have it on the shelf as an op...

Hypericum Flowers

Our Hypericum seems to have a pretty long flowering period so is often a victim of my photographic efforts - that first image is nicely unusual, capturing the shaded and sunlit flower heads side by side. I quite often use a short (12mm) auto extension tube on various telephoto lenses to b...

Bennetts Water Gardens - a broader view

Bennetts Water Gardens are - not unexpectedly for somewhere comprising large pools of water - flat. Very flat. No rises, hillocks or similar to provide visual focus for wide angle views. Most of the interest is on or around the flat surfaces of the pools. So time for an experiment. Would a fisheye l...

PENTAX 17: B&W and C41 Colour First Tests

I was sent a PENTAX 17 by a YouTube Mate who had one sent to him by Ricoh and he did s review but showed NO SNAPS -- so I have tried it with outdated AGFAPAN 25 and outdated 'TUDOR' (FUJI) 100 . I processed the AGFAPAN 25 i a Home-Made 2-bath formula after doing a 'Clip Test' of 4 frames which s...

PENTAX 17: B&W and C41 Colour First Tests

I had a word with my YouTube MATE about things on this Camera as there is no 'Readout' what settings it gives and in instruction book NO 'Technical Details so I went on the RICOH Website and FOUND the PENTAX 17 book and on that were 'Extra Pages' so i found out the Maximum Shutter Speed is 1/350th...

PENTAX 17: B&W and C41 Colour First Tests

Congratulations on taking the time to give such a good practical review of the camera Peter. It seems to be a bit of a 'Marmite' product and a mix of 'nice to have' features on the one hand whilst seemingly 'handicapped' by deliberate omission on the other. Can't make it out at all. Perso...

End of summer with a vintage Takumar 1.8/55

This time of year sees the sunshine appearing less harsh and the change from summer's bright colours to a more muted maturity. It is perfect for one of my favourite lenses, a very early Super Takumar f1.8, 55mm. It's so early that it is about three from the beginning on PentaxForum's listings of ser...

End of summer with a vintage Takumar 1.8/55

As Steve said, these are beautiful images David. I have this lens mounted on a Pentax SV and after seeing these pictures methinks I need to buy an adaptor for my K-3ii. As a matter of interest, a Pentax SV and Takumar 55mm f1.8 was my first SLR, bought new in Singapore way back in the mid...

End of summer with a vintage Takumar 1.8/55

My genuine adapter arrived yesterday – along with high winds and rain, so I spent a while familiarising myself with its use on the K3ii with my very old Super Takumar f1.8 55mm lens without any problems but what a shock I got trying to focus hand-held with the lens wide open at f1.8. :surprised: In...

End of summer with a vintage Takumar 1.8/55

It's true you don't get much d.o.f. but that's one reason I like it. The same holds with a macro lens with which you focus more or less accurately and then sway yourself fore and aft to find the bit you like. (I think I've only ever used burst mode once - it scared the pants off me!). Burst or not, ...

End of summer with a vintage Takumar 1.8/55

Thanks David. I was so keen to try the camera/lens combo at f1.8 that 'spray & pray' shooting was the only way to get a flower in the frame in the high wind, never mind in focus, but at least my property stayed intact-unlike some! Now to re-unite it with the SV and FP4+ and see what that produces at...

A Welsh Adventure

A bit of an adventure on Friday night saw an impromptu trip to Anglesey to photography the Milky Way over Eglwys Cwyfan (St Cwyfan's (Church in the Sea)) and then on to Bryn Celli Ddu Burial Chamber and then on to Penmon Lighthouse for sunrise on the Saturday morning. The adventure started at 17:...

A Welsh Adventure

Wow! All I got during my time in Wales was rain, wind, and CLOUDS!!:angry::angry: I was at a dark sky site too! Geoff..... pen the Llŷn Peninsula in to your dairy. Probably the best dark sky site, outside of Scotland.:smile: I'd be happy with the wind and rain too...

Sunsets from the Orme

Well, I like these sunsets. They're sufficiently different to the usual type of sunset photo that I've come back to look at them several times and asked myself why they work for me. And I think the answer to that question is that they have stripped a sunset to its bare essentials - light source, dar...
