Hi there!
Haven't been around much lately.... My mother has been diagnosed with cancer, and is terminal. She's now at her home, with some support from Palitive care. Her last request was to not die in the hospital, but in her home. She's been needing full time care. I've been staying at her place 24-7 with ...

Hi there!
Sorry to hear your news, Don but it is good that you have managed to get your mother back home, where she can be amongst family and friends.

journalistic input from a photo beginner for photo beginners
Yes indeed Martin, so this means you never read one? I give them a quick look when waiting for the train and just place them back, never really worth the money. Most of the time I end up buying the english NGE and/or advance photoshop if there is an interesting article in them.

journalistic input from a photo beginner for photo beginners
In all honesty, it has to be said. It doesn't matter if explaining the basics of photography is done with Canon or Nikon gear. After all, these two represent the biggest piece of the market. So from that point of view, I understand the editors and writers. Explaining AV mode when doing landscape...

shipping ebay items from U.K. to abroad
Sent a lens to Italy last week, buyer asked if I could sent it with no insurance to reduce the price, I of course refused. Anyway he paid, I sent and he receive it within 4 days. Quite impressed considering the horror stories I have heard about Italy. Had another one in the UK 2 days ago, bid an...

I shall be off early on Saturday morning, heading for Portland, Oregon. Tomorrow I'll be busy with the last minute panic so may not get online. I'll be away for 4 weeks and if I can I'll check in on you all, but can't promise to. I hope those of you who are going to the meet have a great time toge...

Jobo GIGA one portable Hard Drive and card reader
I'm puzzled here Peter. A piece of software I wrote some years ago for a flight simulator included a replay function, so the pilot's actions could be played back to them. This we did by writing "snapshot" files at the rate of one per second to a PC hard drive. this was on a 40 minute rolling loop...

Jobo GIGA one portable Hard Drive and card reader
I have a Jobo GigaOne 40Gb drive and the behavior I have described occurs with mine. It is odd, I know, and there is no mention of it in the manual. Maybe mine is faulty. I certainly don't use it very much. It was one of those bits of kit that I thought would be useful for long trips. Trouble is,...

Memory cards
I've seen it stated somewhere that when the lights on on the K10D it's writing to the card. There is normally a delay due to the buffer from when you take a shot to when the light comes on. It's easier to read the file time stamp than time it with a stopwatch as long as the light hasn't gone off and...

Just got a Pentax 55-300mm lens off SRS that has quite a large dust speck behind the front element. I don't know whether to send it back or not. I would never have accepted it from a shop shame my local shop Kamera were out of stock. I've just returned a mint(LOL)Pentax 80-320mm to an ebay seller be...

That's right Rees the photograph alone is a description. I remember MFI getting caned by the ASA for advertising kitchens and showing a load of gear in the photographs that wasn't included in the price, even though they had small print bearing a disclaimer. Now look what happened to MFI. This seller...

Time to say "Good-bye"
Hi all I've not been around for a little while and maybe it's time to say good-bye. As some of you will remember, back in May/June last year I had to sell my Pentax kit to help pay for an unexpected bill. Well the Pentax kit sold without any problems and at the prices which I advertised (old ne...
