Laptop Nightmare

You can easily remove the HDD from Dells. You could even buy a £25 2.5" HDD-to-USB2 case from PCWorld and connect your laptop drive to a desktop and pull off the images you need. If you need to send it back, remove the drive first ;) Matt

Magnifying Eyecup

I have just got one of these and was wondering what others with this nice little add-on do with it. Do you leave it on the camera perminantly or just use it when doing macro or for other manual focus situations? It seems to me that I can see all the viewfinder through it, that includes all of th...

Magnifying Eyecup

I have the Pentax one and I use it most of the time on my K10D, particularly when doing macro. It does help with fine focus. There is no vignetting and one can see the LCD display at the bottom of the screen. An excellent accessory and not expensive.

Magnifying Eyecup

Just an update... Have got my sticky mits on McBrians O-ME53 and have it fitted on the K10D. I wear specs (very short sighted + astigmatism) and, yes, there is some vignetting in the top corners, and yes, I need to move my eye fractionally up to get a clear view of the LCD information - but it's n...

Magnifying Eyecup

It's always difficult to judge other people's difficulties with focusing. I'm fortunate that I'm short sighted - this makes operating camera controls and so on very easy. Without glasses, inches away, everything is crystal clear! I've shown some people ME Super cameras and they've been unable to ...

Magnifying Eyecup

If you have real difficulty with manual focus I would suggest the following: first with newer cameras make sure the dioptre setting is right. Point the camera at an even white surface and adjust until the guide frames in the viewfinder are sharp. You do not need to focus on anything whilst you are d...

Magnifying Eyecup

I have always tried to do it using a focused scene! The reson that this doesn't work is that the eye tries to adapt and focus on the scene as opposed to the focusing screen. That's why it's essential to use a blank background or a defocused sky or something similar.

50 years of images - this is amazing!

Pentax vs Penthouse

Don, Just got back from "No Internet Land" and am catching up on the doin's here. Very nice casual shot of a very nice lady. I've got a Super Tak 1.4 (the kind that used to yellow). All I have to do is find as pleasing a subject. I won't ask my usual question...... OF COURSE you deserve ...

Binoculars?

I went from Nikon to Leitz/Leica and then to Canon, in my opinion the Canon's have no equal (although not tried any Pentax  ). If you think image stabilisation is useful on cameras wait until you try it with binoculars - it's a revelation! I also found Canon to make the lightest (albeit du...

Binoculars?

Do have some money over for a good long lens. The minimum you will need is 300 mm - the 50-300mm would be a good choice, the Bigma if you can carry it it maybe an even better choice, though it depends on how much you are likely to use it afterwards. I had my Tamron 28-300 as my only lens when I went...

Binoculars?

Yes we have internal flights, which means 12Kg weight limit for everything - I may have to wear every item of clothing during check-in! I posted a similar query to this one regarding lenses for this trip a little while back and the general consensus was that either the Sigma 100-300mm f/4 or (if ...

Binoculars?

Yes, Tanzania is the destination of choice for 2010. We loved it there and I really want to go back again. We stayed in tented camps and were able to walk with the Maasai and interact with them. We saw the "big 5" and just had a very special time there. No internal flights either so the Bigma will g...

Binoculars?

I would happily recommend Hawke optics ' ' 8x42 bins, we stock them at work and they are £149.95, so just about spot on for your budget. Waterproof and focus down to under 6 feet, so good for dragonflies, butterflies, your shoes etc. ;-) Image stabilised 8x25s are all well and good, but it would...

Film expiry date

Hi, Apologies if in wrong area of forum, but decided to go back and put some film through a film SLR today, and lo and behold as I hadn't done this for a while, most had 'expired', the most recent date being 03/08. Will this film still be usable do you think, or am I best throwing the lot (about 1...

I would Like To..................

If you are going to move to Pentax then you'll have the advantage of having the choice of some outstanding optics. All of the lenses, including M42 screw, ever made by Pentax can be used (with some limitiations) on all of their DSLR bodies. The K20D body has got to be my recommendation. Mine will...

I would Like To..................

... my tests show that each of my Pentax AF lenses needs a different focus offset. The K20D handles it, the K10D doesn't. .. I am surpised to hear that... how much out of focus are we talking here and which in particular lenses Peter?
