advice for cleaning

I use the rocket blower and I have a good way of checking the sensor. I take a shot of my ceiling (white) with flash, ensuring I am at about 100mm on my 18-200 and out of focus (i.e manual focus) you won't get a locak anyway. For me, this seems to show up the dust and dirty spots very well. I f...

advice for cleaning

Yes, thank heavens for white ceilings. I also use manual focus, F22 and use that shot as my test for whether cleaning is working or not.

Pentax Magazine - July 95

Does any have a copy of this magazine we could have/borrow. It's the only one going back to day 1 that we have missing and we are currently putting the old mags together on pdf's. Any help would be appreciated. Dan

Pentax Magazine - July 95

Dan have you any idea when the PDF versions might be available to view?. I'd love to see the very early mags. I go back some time but not to the begining. When did the Mag. start? 1901 or 1902.   :?: CHEERS Vic

Pentax Magazine - July 95

The only one that I kept was from October '83. I only saved this one because I have a photo in it which was a portrait of a raccoon, entered in an animal portrait competition. I can't remember what I won but it wasn't much and the Kodachrome came back in a terrible state. Shot on an MX with 70-210 z...

OT: Operating system recommendations

Liam, Unfortunately I don't have a huge amount of time at present. And I want a fast machine with plenty of fast disk space, so second-hand kit probably won't do. After my frustrating experiences trying to find the cause of strange lines on my pictures (which I first blamed, wrongly, on the K...

Help and Advise requested

I remember a fellow I saw in vancouver years back, trying to eke out a living with his polaroid camera. He was in a wheelchair, and crippled up pretty bad. He would offer snapshots for a few bucks. He had a leather pouch on his belt, into which he slid one end of a short stick (about the length o...

Can I also add my vote for an RSS feed to be available for each of the sub forums please? I aggregate all my feeds in my mail software - MS Outlook which means I can pick up my mail and RSS posts at any time I like via PC or phone. It's just so much easier and if you do a search back through the p...

Attn: Mac

Hey you two! Just in from my 3rd snow-blowing session today. It isn't officially winter yet, so this makes it one of the worst autumn's in my long, feeble memory. We have 90+ centimeters down so far in Montreal and just don't know where to put the blamed stuff. The ski hill operators - normal...

Attn: Mac

I was chatting to a friend in Victor NY last night. She was sick of the snow already. I read that Canada is expecting a really bad winter. I hope they are wrong for you guys! And for my new great nephew, Zack, born Tuesday in Toronto  We have had a week of below zero temps so we are happy....

christmas bonus...

If it's any help I have enjoyed using my Sigma 10-20 and it keeps creeping back onto the body as it's just so useful. But it's big quite the biggest lens I have and doesn't fit into pockets well. Also it would probably rarely leave the body if it was 28 not 20. Mike

Hard Drive Back-Up

Having had a hard drive corrupted at work by a power cut, I decided to purchase a Seagate Freeagent 250gb external hard drive. It cost just under £50 and works just like a giant USB stick. A worthwhile investment as losing all my digital photographs would be a real pain.

Hard Drive Back-Up

I've got an old 40gb as an external backup, all my wife's college work and all my pics are backed up automatically several times a day.

Hard Drive Back-Up

I was looking at getting an external drive, but I couldn't find one that hadn't got at least a couple of comments saying it had died after a relatively short amount of time. In then end I've just gone for a 500GB internal drive, and will back up from all the computers over our home network. It doesn...

Hard Drive Back-Up

Having more than one internal drive is a good idea but if the PSU goes belly up it could damage both drives - I've seen it happen! For important stuff always backup to an external drive.

Hard Drive Back-Up

I use a very small 80gb USB powered Freecom hard drive for day to day use and a mains powered 250gb Packard Bell as my main back up/archive, it is kept in a safe

Hard Drive Back-Up

I have been using Mozy (www.mozy.com) for online backup for about 6 months now - it's pretty good. As someone else pointed out external drives are great, but can still get stolen or toasted in a fire (even in a safe). Mozy is free to try (up to 2gb storage) and $5/month for unlimited storage. The...
