A new sign of the times for Hoya/Pentax in Canada?

Hello All Well, tonight I just returned from a very popular 2 day photographic seminar in Abbotsford, British Columbia. It was the 30th anniversary of this annual event which I have personally attended for the past 6 years. Every year that I have attended it has been a full house sellout with...

A new sign of the times for Hoya/Pentax in Canada?

I suspect that Hoya are still fine-tuning the details of their marketing strategy. Bear in mind that these things need organising, and that a decision to attend the show probably had to be taken back in July when Hoya had just taken over. G

Inspiration?

Hi Drerka I am still quite new to photography and maybe that works in my favour for inspiration. I just look at everything and think either "how could I capture that and do it justice" or "that looks interesting / pretty/ inspiring etc" I'll come back with my camera take a...

Selling on eBay UK?

I am 100% with hefty1 on this subject. I have become more and more disillusioned with greedyBay over the last year in particular. It proves that a company that doesn't have 'reasonable' competition will be able to get away with whatever they like. I believe that we will always have auction sites - i...

Selling on eBay UK?

Hi, Back on thread for a moment. I have a similar experience to batty. I have used evilbay for 7 years. The last 2, it has gone a lot downhill mainly for smaller private sellers, mainly because of lots of so-called improvements by ebay that in reality are NOT. They have increasingly chased the la...

Another eBay question - payment related

A couple of things. Have you sent him an invoice yet? If not he may be waiting for that. If you have, I would send an email asking if he intends to proceed. You can always get his full contact details from eBay. If still response after a week from auction end, I would send a reminder payment invoice...

Another eBay question - payment related

If you do go that way, you still need to file a non paying bidder alert with eBay. You will get charged another final value fee on the second chance. Also, the first buyer will not be able to retaliate with neg feedback for if the alert has been filed. However, there could be very many reasons. If I...

Hello all - Newbie alert!

Oh, all right then... People expect baby birds to look all 'young' and speckly, like Robins and Blackbirds. Whereas pigeons (Wood Pigeons specifically), once they leave the nest, just look like adult birds, other than not having the white patch around the back of their necks, and they'll get tha...

Hello all - Newbie alert!

Did you see the recent telly programme showing ducklings leaping from their nests 60 feet above the water at the Barbican, then plummeting like stones into the water? Fascinating. G Yes I did, but thankfully, unlike stones, they quickly bobbed back up to the surface. Pummice stones perhaps. I...

Hello all - Newbie alert!

George, those are feral pigeons, which, as Mr. Titchmarsh rightly mentioned, are descendants of the Rock Dove. So not sure whether the 'white bit on the back of the neck' works with them. However, I suspect the white lump at the base of the beak won't appear for a few months... Dan

had the k10 for a month - need help with accessories for pla

Hi Eric, All the advice given to you in the earlyer posts are sound and full of wisdom, but........I have to disagree on one point. And that is the tripod :!: Call me a old school guy, but a tripod is still the best piece of equipment you can buy for your hobby. Value for money wise also. ( a goo...

had the k10 for a month - need help with accessories for pla

Hi Eric, You won't be sorry if you buy a tripod( even a light one as a compromise for the weight issue) :) Having a test drive last week with my new K10D i found an auto iso setting from: 100-400 very uesful. If you use AV and your 18-50 kitlens you can safely use f11-f16 in combination with a t...

Manfrotto tripod question

The catches on the legs of the 055 are spring loaded and have adjustable tension - if you look on the back of each one you'll see a hex nut which will fit your key like a glove. I guess the monopod's probably the same.

Manfrotto tripod question

Just shows how details change over time - I've had my 055 for about 6 years now so at some point they must have changed from the metal key to the (plastic?) one. As you can see, on mine the hex nuts are fully exposed too so the covers must also be a recent addition. I have to say, in all the time...

Shooting Fireworks. Any advice

No fireworks over here to try this, right now, but I wonder if anybody doing fireworks will give this a try, and share their findings? use that multiexposure technique mentioned the other day in another thread. set the iso to 200-400 and (try both noise reduction on and off), and 9 exposures. tr...

If I ruled the (Pentax) world...

...I'd want a macro/ring flash that did P-TTL. Not too much to ask is it? Well yes, according to Pentax UK, who emailed me back yesterday to say that nothing like this is currently under consideration, let alone development. :( So, it set me wondering, if you were the head of product develop...

If I ruled the (Pentax) world...

Hmmm! My earlier post was somewhat tongue in cheek. I don't for a minute think that Pentax would even consider a full frame 35mm body. They have too much commited to the DA range and at the same time have discontinued most of the FA range. So, as far as 35mm is concerned, I would like to see a r...
