What does the Lens lettering mean, (+ a SFXn lens question)

SMC (Super-Multi-Coated) Pentax lenses with suffixes such as -F and -FA will be autofocus and suitable for your needs. There are f1.7 and f1.4 versions and I would suggest they will be better than the Sigma lenses. Macro lenses are also available in 50mm, but are usually f2.8 or even f4 but very ...

What does the Lens lettering mean, (+ a SFXn lens question)

The SMC Pentax-FA lens is autofocus, but it does have a manual focus ring that you can use if you wish. The SMC Pentax-A lenses are manual focus and are available in f1.2, f1.4, f1.7 and f2 versions. The f1.2 will be very expensive. The optical design of all these lenses is very similar, and a...

What does the Lens lettering mean, (+ a SFXn lens question)

Ok then if the smc P-FA 50mm F1.4 has a focus ring it's what i want. cause I'll probably use it both ways. On the Pentax site I saw what looked like a turnable ring, but because it had no raised bumps I had wonderd. I probably couldn't afford the 1.2, and am not a profesional so don't really need i...

PArts for an old mv

I have just been given an old Pentax mv camera, unfortunately the Film Rewind Crank and the Film Rewind Knob / Back Cover Release is missing, the spindle to screw the missing part on is still intact though. Does anyone know whereI can find a replacement for this? Preferably it would be an au...

PArts for an old mv

You might try Pentax UK for the parts, or any of the repairers advertising in the photo magazines, or on this site. Any Pentax K fit (i.e., bayonet fit) lens will fit your camera and be useable within the linmitations of the body. You will have aperture priority auto exposure available, and manua...

Can I do this? (Pentax lens with film camera)

You can't go the other way; ie: fit a bayonet lens to a screw camera (unless you take the mount off completely) because the throat of the bayonet lens is too wide. You would not get infinity focus; the lens would become a permanent macro. Also, it is quite likely that the thread on the cine is n...

Pentax LX problems..will not focus on infinity..Help please?

Hi, Just bought a near mint LX, however none of my Pentax K or M lenses will focus on infinity !!, I have tried another prism and the problem still exists... can anyone advise on the possible fault and repair costs?, the camera also seems to over-expose by a full 2 stops, is this normal for an LX?...

Pentax LX problems..will not focus on infinity..Help please?

Something is clearly amiss - perhaps someone has replaced the focusing screen and it isn't clicked properly into place, perhaps the mirror is out of alignment, maybe something else. But if simple checks don't reveal an obvious cause, I would send the camera for overhaul. The LX is a very classy c...

Pentax LX problems..will not focus on infinity..Help please?

From the sound of it, your LX is exhibiting a fairly common problem due to the mirror "dropping" slightly due to the mirror pad foam being a bit old.. Check out this webpage http://members.ozemail.com.au/~distudio/pentax_lx_problems/ This can affect both infinity focusisng and metering...

Aperture questions about a SFXn

Still fairly new to aperture, and confused by my camera. It's an SFXn, right now with an AF sigma 28 - 80 mini zoom II. 3.5 to 5.6 aspherical lens. I Here's my question I know the camera will automatically control the focus, shutterspeed, and aperture, and I understand the first 2, an...

Aperture questions about a SFXn

In program mode, the camera will alter the shutter speed to allow the correct amount of light through the lens for the aperture you have set. You will notice that if you move up one stop (say from f8 to f11), the camera will compensate by halving the shutter speed. Each stop represents half th...

Aperture questions about a SFXn

Hey thanks for the help George. Speaking of focus depth, in automatic there's a "program depth mode" on my SFXn. I plan to learn the aperture manually but mean time wondered how this mode works. It's suppose to take more in depth focus shots when selected. I use to think it was a double focus,...

Aperture questions about a SFXn

Fiannor, I've just pointed my old SFX out of the window at a leaden January sky, and tried the three program modes. Lansdscape mode gave f13.5, normal gave f8, and action gave f3.5. So there is a marked difference. The camera selected a shutter speed of 1/30 in landscape (with the focal le...

Aperture questions about a SFXn

Hey George about your info on the, "Lansdscape mode gave f13.5, normal gave f8, and action gave f3.5", you listed above. These are focus numbers right? I get them in my camera in either manual aperture, or automatic indepth mode. I thought they were aperture numbers at first, (which I wished the cam...

Aperture questions about a SFXn

Fiannor, Aperture is always expressed as an "F" number, as in "f3.5". Don't ask me why, but that is the convention. I was referring to apertures, not focussing. You will soon recognise the numbers. In full, they are: f1, f1.4, f2, f2.8, f4, f5.6, f8, f11, f16, f22 and f32. Note how every n...

Aperture questions about a SFXn

The reason I thought what you had said were originally focal numbers, was because at 8 and above my f stops are only whole numbers. I've never seen a 13.5 aperture listed on the f-stop ring, (but then haven't seen allot of lenses). I know the difference on my camera between aperture and these othe...
