Seriously - film SLRs phased out? Pentax.com

First let me say that this discussion has been interesting and enlightening to read. Here is my small and humble contribution. I am an enthusiast on a tight budget... a " wannabe" , to put it rather bluntly (but at least i can admit it! ). I "wanna " take the kind of photos that are super...

28-300mm zoom?

Hi, I have used the 100-300 Pentax lens and to be honest, it is not at all good above 200 and not brilliant below. It is also AF and the focus would be very loose on a MF body such as the MX. I would favour going for a good 300 prime secondhand and perhaps back this up with something in the 80 - 20...

Tamron Lens

I have got a Tamron lens (90mm Macro 2.8) this also has the old Pentax K Mount Adaptall 2 adaptor, is this adaptor ok to use on the MZ7 SLR i don,t know if this would cause any problems between the two, i believe i am right in thinking it will only work in Manual exposure and Aperture prority only a...

zx50 with sigma(4.5) af 28-105 et 100-200m -why no clarity?

are the 2 sigma lenses above good quality and/or are they too slow? once again my wife's $50 point and shoot gets crystal clear pictures which the zx doesn't. i really would like to know that the camera and lenses will give clear pictures so that i can concentrate on photography. I have seen nikon...

zx50 with sigma(4.5) af 28-105 et 100-200m -why no clarity?

Hi, I think there are a couple of points to think about. First of all, nearly every photo that is published has been retouched to some degree. However beyond that, you don't need a Leica or Nikon to get clear photos. I remember many of the reviews in AP and other mags in the days of the K and M len...

zx50 with sigma(4.5) af 28-105 et 100-200m -why no clarity?

The problem that many people find with SLRs and certain compacts is that the level of control given often exceeds what is required, whereas the limited scope of compact cameras allows for simple scenes to be well rendered well as the camera is set to offer only 'sensible' values in terms of shutter ...

zx50 with sigma(4.5) af 28-105 et 100-200m -why no clarity?

:D i want to thank all for their "right on comments". I am afraid of the answer but I looked at my sigma lenses and 28-105mm has "UC" on the lens, whilst the 100-300mm has "DL" on the lens. I bought these lenses in the hope that they would work well. All are right-i am a rank amateur and unclear p...

zx50 with sigma(4.5) af 28-105 et 100-200m -why no clarity?

 george: thanks for post. i know this is going to sound strange but where can i find out the difference between these kinds of lenses? i don't want to get ripped off for lense features i don't need. i have a zx 50 and would use it in "m" setting and an mx. are there and if so which lenses w...

zx50 with sigma(4.5) af 28-105 et 100-200m -why no clarity?

HJ, See the second link on my earlier post for full details of which lenses work with what. You are confusing AF and AL with Pentax lens suffixes, which appear after the words "SMC Pentax" on all good Pentax K mount lenses. Manual focus lenses have the following suffixes: None (but calle...

zx50 has a "closeup" setting -what is the purpose?

Hi, John is quite correct in his answer. The MZ50 manual states "This mode is useful for close-up photography. It favours smaller apertures to maximise the depth of field, ensuring sharp focus of a close-up object. If you haven't got a copy of the MZ50 manual, there is one on my wexsite at www.p...

What does the Lens lettering mean, (+ a SFXn lens question)

I see allot of talk on the forums about A, F, and other letters for lenses. What does it mean? Is it an indication of Automatic and Manual? What do the other letters stand for? I have an SFXn I purchased in London in 89 on a trip, (I'm a yank, from Texas but we don't put those 2 words togethe...

What does the Lens lettering mean, (+ a SFXn lens question)

The SFXn was possibly the second in the series of AF bodies, and the autofocus is probably a little slow by modern standards. However, there is no reason at all why you shouldn't take great pictures with it, and if you need a new lens then any Pentax AF lens will be fully functional. You can als...

What does the Lens lettering mean, (+ a SFXn lens question)

If you are looking for something really special then a Tokina 28-70mm AF f2.6-2.8 is a great idea or the more expencive 28-80mm AF f2.8 also the Sigma 28-70mm EX 2.8 lens is great. But these lenses are quite expencive. If you would be willing to fork out the money for one of these then they will inc...

What does the Lens lettering mean, (+ a SFXn lens question)

Hey thanks guys for the sugjestions, and explaining the lettering system guys. I got my lens tonight, but it's nothing fancy. I was at Ritz, and they didn't have any Pentax lenses for my camera. The only lenses he had for my camera were 2 sigma's. The first one didn't work right. The one I got is ...

What does the Lens lettering mean, (+ a SFXn lens question)

And yea the camera guy was a Nikon fan of course, figures, but he was nice. Personally I think Nikon and Nike have something in common, it's all about a name. Ok I Want to talk about this and maybee start another thread entirely. Is it possible that even though Nikon have a higher currant profile...

What does the Lens lettering mean, (+ a SFXn lens question)

On the Sigma 28 - 80 mm zoom AF I bought, I can only turn the focus ring half way. To use the rest of the range I have to use the macro button. Is this normal? The macro numbers are in gold, yet the white numbers beneath, representing the normal focus range, (I assume), goes almost as far as the ma...

What does the Lens lettering mean, (+ a SFXn lens question)

I think that is normal for some lenses, the minimum focussing distance varies depending on the focal length that you have selected. If only half of the focussing range is available at any given focal length, then that sounds a bit dramatic and I suspect that it may not be functioning correctly. Ca...

What does the Lens lettering mean, (+ a SFXn lens question)

The purpose of macro is to provide close focussing. That is why you need to be in macro mode to be able to focus closer than 0.5 (which is pretty close anyway for a non-macro lens).

What does the Lens lettering mean, (+ a SFXn lens question)

George Yea I know what a macro is, but it isn't confined to just the macro lettering. With the macro button on I can rotate the focus ring freely from the closest macro seting back to infinity, but when shooting normally without macro I can only turn it half way. Seems to me it'd make senc...

What does the Lens lettering mean, (+ a SFXn lens question)

Hey if i wanted a strait 50 mm lens, (I think it's called a prime), that would work with my SFXn's auto focus and auto aperature settings what should I be looking at? Just AF's? I see them on ebay and was thinking about getting one as a second lens. Looking for a shorter, faster lense that I can use...
