Playing with Daylight Interiors
From my Post at ePhotozine: Here is a suggestion for a harder more contrasted light. Imagine you have your window open and the light is streaming in to the room. Now this will apply to direct sunlight and overcast conditions. The rendition will differ, but the technique is similar. Take two o...

Hoya take over of Pentax goes ahead.
Hiya, Back to the original point about what happens to Pentax when Hoya finally dumps them..which everyone 'in the know' realises will happen at some point in time. Here is some real 'left field' speculation mixed in with some hope, bearing in mind I am a Contax & Zeiss fan... I believe...

It's DIGITAL Pentax Pete!
Daniel : No, it's the Cancer Charity shop back room : I was there to photograph John Baron MP acting as a 'Volunteer' for the day on a scheme where MP's (Members of Parliament) do some work in the Community ! One of the pics I took was used front page on the Brentwood & Billercay Recorder. ( NO...

Orphaned Baby Squirrell gets adopted by a Bunch of Nuts!
Here's the newest member of our family. I don't know why but he seems facinated with my desk. He's always playing with the phone, or the computer, everytime I turn my back, on him.

How to price your work
I had a pm from a member and decided the answer might be benificial to others so here it is: here's an idea: factor what it costs you to offer a service (equipment costs, labour (your time has got to be worth something) and a profit (not a crime to make some money). now if you're out there, and...

Pentax and I part company
I would have expected nothing less than the crap you've come out with George.. Always the smart-arse.. Strange how you seem to have the solution.. Were you not one of the 800 who read my initial post .. which generated 0 replies.. I did read it, but I never answer people who spell thanks with an...

Hard times for Jessops
TBH they have a load of superfluous stores which should have been closed years ago. They bring these things on themselves. Very true. There are two in Kingston, for instance; one large, one small. When I bought my K10D, they had a "buy now pay later" deal on, but when I picked the came...

LOL, there are FOUR here in Leeds none of which have customers most of the time. The largest one is ...

Hard times for Jessops
The problem with expansion by acquisition is that you have to change the culture of the people who work in the stores you acquire, and this can be difficult, and it will always take time. When you expand as rapidly as Jessops did, the process of assimilation may not be given the attention it dese...

Real or Fake?
8 out of 10 :( I got the diamonds and the corkscrew wrong. Hey ho! Part of the trick of good CG and photo manipulation is to listen to your subconscious... after editing take a small break and come back to the image fresh. It's little things like shadows, reflections, colour, and variations in s...

Real or Fake?
interesting that we all seem to have got different ones wrong, my mistake was the closeup of the back end of a car, though the Corkscrew very nearly got me.

I've made a sale but I have a question
Through a chance browse in a local art gallery (biggest commercial gallery in Scotland) I spyed some prints for sale, A couple of them I recognised were by a member of my camera club. After a conversation with the gallery manager I was asked to show her some of my better efforts (straight home, prep...

I've made a sale but I have a question
If you are not VAT registered then the price is the price ;) You cannot "add VAT" when you are not VAT registered. It's illegal to do so, AFAIK, because if you were VAT registered your customer can claim the VAT back if they are VAT registered too. Confused? :P Bottom line - you just ...

I've made a sale but I have a question
So far, I think this thread has dealt only with VAT on sales. A huge benefit of being VAT registered is that you can claim back VAT on purchases, so those expensive lenses suddenly become 17.5% cheaper  . You can also claim this retrospectively if you intend using your own photographic equipm...

Why does the eye not suffer from Chromatic Aberration?
Actualty, the eye doesn't need multiple dedicated lenses as the angle of incidence of the different fluids in the eye also helps focus light. So you have the Cornea as the objective lens, then in the same element you have the Aqueous Humor followed by the lens and the Vitreous Humor. That is 4...
