Pentax Hoya merger off
Hi, Gwyn..I think this weeks column in AP by the old grumpy beardy one on the back page sums up things in the 'modern world'...do you get it in the land of canals? He points out (sadly) how we all are getting more competitive retailing...ie cheaper prices and that 'high end' goods in particula...

Pentax Hoya merger off
Seems to be back on... I think they'd do much better as a camera company if Samsung bought them out.

VIP Winnipeg 2007
I recently did something similar myself, assisting during selection of images for the YPU (Yorkshire Photographic Union) exhibition this year, which my own camera club is hosting :D Most of the entries were amazing yet I was also surprised at the amount of poor quality work that was entered, I o...

Attn: Dan - still banned
I got the banned message too, and emailed for assistance earlier today, back up and running now tho' I also got my brother to check on his PC (using my login) and he got access, so looks like the blocking spam thingy is the culprit. Bit of a relief tho' I thought I'd managed to put my foot in ...

Replacement eyecup
From my experience with Pentax spare parts, they charge a flat rate of £8 for postage on top of the item price. I bought a new battery cover for my AF280T some time back. The cover, £3.??, postage, £8. You could also try Harrow Technical / Asahi Photo !

Replacement eyecup
I kept thinking that I could get a fair chunk back by selling on the body but there comes a point where you just have to say "enough is enough". I didn't buy the grip strap when it was available new for about £70, because I thought it represented poor value compared to the Minolta equiv...

Laptop wanted
Our company switched to Dells exclusively for both Laptops and Desktops, and we have about 200 of them installed (about 200 laptops) Their support (once you get past the first level) is quite good, and their QA seems to be pretty good as well. It got to the point where we couldn't justify the cost...

Laptop wanted
but the ability to take a few knocks is a concern. If you are referring to my recent tragedy, my laptop fell 5 feet onto a hard floor, dont think anything would have come out of that unscathed! I would think of the external HD as the primary storage device, its good practice to keep the media on ...

Laptop wanted
Trouble is, it comes with Vista Don't worry. You decide, phone 'em up and say "Put XP on instead" and they say "Don't you want the latest and greatest?" - "NO". No problem :P You get a laptop with XP. You'll notice that XP is available for business Dell sales, and they...

63% think film gives better results than digital...
I for one started out with film and lived and breathed photography, and film was all I had. I switched to digital, gave up film and live and breathe everything digital. I went back to school, and started film again. (b&w, slide, print, 35mm through to 4x5). The film stuff I've turned in...

63% think film gives better results than digital...
...and how many AP readers looked at the question and thought "Well, I'm getting better images with my DSLR than I did with my 35mm SLR, but you can get film in 5"x4" sheets, and that's got to be better..." I like to think I'm a serious user, and have never printed my own phot...

Red Heads + Black & White
no other touchups except the b+w conversion. I was told (as a kid) that I was standing behind the screendoor when the outhouse blew up..... javascript:emoticon('') Have tried using the "despecle" filter on photos of me with no luck. I posted a howto on b+w's a while back, that al...

Congrats Pete Smith
These are the emails I received from the same address. I wouldn't travel anywhere to do a wedding without first meeting people. I didn't realize that this was a scam, but I did call my brother and ask him if he was playing a practical joke on me. This guy keeps answering the email.. what is h...

Kodak Endura Metallic
I just got a print back which was printed on the Kodak Endura Metallic paper. This stuff is really great. Metallic objects look very real on this paper. It is not cheap, but the effect is very nice. I have allso read that B&W images look especially good on this paper.

Kodak Endura Metallic
Yeah I know...I was already mentioning that in an earler post, about a promo peice. Truthfully, after seeing a large number of them entered in a recent competition, I'd liketo point out that paper is not suited to all prints, but once you find the right print, POW, the images will jump right off ...

Kodak Endura Metallic
I just got some enlargments back from the lab on this paper. sized from 30 to 40 inches. That promo peice I was working on and had posted for critiques turned out stunning...the copper tones really worked with this printing process. I also printed some other samples from that same photoshoot, inc...

Website critique please
Brian, The front image is very soft, IMHO  Makes it look very out of focus even. When you've done the gallery, it may be a good idea to pull in a random photo or two onto the front page (easy if you're using PHP). Matt

The Process of Capturing an Image
Hi Ben So many people just stand there and take a 'recording' type shot. One of the main advantages of a camera is you can shoot even the mundane from angles we don't normally see the world from, low angles are obviously the easiest and a shot of the local High Street is a very different place...
