Weather Brrr
Well, we are in the middle of an extreme snow watch. Woke up to wind chill of -30C and approximately 60-70cm of snow. Back garden has totally disappeared including the 90cm fence for the dogs. Had to dig a trench to let the dogs out. I have two West Highland White Terriers and they, who normally rev...

Weather Brrr
Very true Mac. Most people get lulled into a false sense of security. they think 4x4's go anywhere and fail to adjust thier driving habits. Then there's BC drivers.... I remember when I was 18, getting caught in a snowfall on my way back to Langley from skiing in whistler. There were cars in th...

Hello All
Hi and Welcome Gerri! If you want to get back at Don just a little, I believe there is a small cheque in your miscellaneous drawer which remains uncashed. Why don't you buy a little something that really irritates him, and use it whenever he gets out-of-line? Oh, wait, you'll need extra batteries...

Kiron Macro lens repair
I just picked up a Kiron Macro lens from Ebay Great thinks I, the Kiron 105 is legendary. Indeed the optics are stunning, but the focus doesn't work properly :( It sticks at 1:1.2 and 1:10 so you can't get all the way to either end of the range :( Does anyone know of a repair shop which wou...

Rodger....
Have a great trip to Kenya. I am sooo jealous. Whereabouts are you going? This time last year I was in Tanzania, in the middle of the migration, watching the birth of a wildebeest calf, astounding. That and the Cheetahs we found when no-one else was around have to be the highlights. Hope to get b...

Too wide to see
Not a photographic issue but a PC one related to this site Why do some posts stretch right off the screen? Most of the time there is no problem, but recently it seems to have become worse. :( I seem to remember someone else with a similar problem some time back, but I cannot remember the an...

A Delve Into The ADAPS Archive
That was the title of the presentation I did last night at ADAPS (Atherton & District Amateur Photographic Society) and one section of this trip into the past was a selection of black and white prints from the vaults....(I speak figuratively, we don't really have either a vault or an archive...)...

A Delve Into The ADAPS Archive
Yes, very interesting, and although it's not sending me back into the darkroom it's a good reminder that there is still work to be done to achieve the same standards. Now you've got me thinking John - when do I have a day to spare to lose myself in a blacked out room? :?:

Public Photography ban?
As part of the C&G course I'm doing, we had to submit a 10 photo assignment of "faces, places and events" or "motion". My wife chose F,P & E at the Market, and I chose Motion about town. Both involved taking a lot of pictures of people and public places. Most people and p...

Public Photography ban?
We wouldn't be facing this problem if the British judicial system wasn't a joke, paedolphiles let back out onto the streets, and housholders jailed for protecting thier property etc, plus innocent photographers both verbally and physically abused because some zealous orifice had been wound up by an ...

Public Photography ban?
There's a few heated words said about the freedom of photographers in this forum. Common sense is need For example, it is not illegal to take a photograph of any property as long as you are not standing on private grounds. Military sensitive are an exception for the obvious reasons. However, if s...

Public Photography ban?
We had a very well respected and award winning press tog, David Cruikshanks give a slide shown and talk at my camera club last week. He showed some of his early work (80's), street and general life shots and the likes, he said he wouldn't even think about doing them these days. He has now left...

Public Photography ban?
it's amazing what you can get away with in a yellow or "bouncy" jacket, as they are called in technical jargon. I used to work for a survey company. On one occasion we had to survey an abandoned paper mill in Norwich. The gate was secured with a chain and two padlocks, which were suppos...

photographing the lunar eclipse - 3rd March ?
despite using the remote release on 3sec delay with mirror lock up I still got nothing but fuzzy shots My experience too. Pre-totality I was getting results like this: K10D, Sigma 400mm, 1/250, F8, ISO 200 ... whereas during totality they all looked like this: I didn't move the...

photographing the lunar eclipse - 3rd March ?
My best effort is here:- Nice. I realised early that focusing during totality would be impossible, so I fiddled about quite a bit until there was about 1/3 of the moon not yet in the umbra, and then left it severely alone. I was very, very careful not to disturb the focus when I took the TC of...

Film vs Digital
Got my pics back the other day from a professional developer. I his opinion those I took at ISO1600 far out performed film at the same setting :D We even enlarged one to A4 and the noise was still negligable :D I don't think digital will ever out perform ISO32 slides but against normal IS...

mp3 player from your car's stereo
I may be wrong, but as far as I recall these devices only work on cassette players where you can disable auto-reverse. Is that still the same? Doesn't apply to me I use an iTrip with my iPod! 8) it deppends on the model, my Goodmans one is double sided and geared to work with auto-reverse playe...
