My guess, and it's only a guess, is that it will a 12-28mm f/4 based on the new Tokina design. I imagine it will be weather sealed (it would certainly be a disappointment if not). I would assume it will supersede the current 12-24mm.

I don't know when we'll see it, I hope soon!

I too have had a few lenses from Japanese sellers on ebay (I have pay import duty in Switzerland whether it come from the EU or Japan). Generally no problem, postage is quick and they often have the harder to find things. The only thing I would say is be sure to check the condition in the photos. I think I have a slightly higher expectation of "excellent" than some of the sellers.

I'm pretty happy with the 300+TC, but I see what you mean a screwdrive lens could be faster. Interesting experiment. Have you got a AF 1.7x? This might give a indication of screwdrive speed with the DA 300. Maybe even the 300 can be flashed to screw drive like the DA16-50 (I'm not brave enough to try it!)
