Does anyone have any experience of using the Wein HSHS - 990-560 - Hot Shoe to Hot Shoe Safe Sync?

Might I suggest that when taking your test pics you concentrate on the edges rather than the centre?

Getting something central relies on estimation. Taking a shot of something with regular spacing, say a row of small, regular windows on either side of a doorway and aiming to get the same amount in on each side might prove/disprove any problem more easily.

Don't fall into the trap of thinking that all lagers are the pale chemical fizz consumed by lager boys.

Lager is a style of brewing using bottom fermenting yeast and storage of the finished product. There are some excellent cask-conditioned lagers brewed in UK - Schiehallion and Galloway Gold to name just two. Sam Smith also produces a good bottled lager.

Pete,

Thanks for response. I have a Lowepro CompuTrekker AW for travelling which is fine for that purpose but not something I want to wear for sightseeing, walking etc especially when in busy, hot or high places. The need is for quick and easy access to the camera, hence the bag is the preferred approach.

Brakspear Triple is superb but as others have said is a bit heavy. Their Oxford Gold is lighter and very toothsome.

Another bottle-conditioned beer I love is Summer Lightning. The Co-op do quite a nice little range of BC beers, sadly Morrisons stopped theirs (I think),

My K10 usually has a 16-45 lens on it. I have had a couple of Lowepro TLZ1 bags which were ideal in terms of features but failed disappointingly quickly in the fabric holding the main zip.

I think this is partly due to poor materials but also due to the fact that the combination of camera, lens and strap is a bit big for the bag and puts strain on the zip mountings. I'm also probably not careful enough with the strap when stowing the camera.

There seem to be two options. One is to find a lighter strap with a smaller/no shoulder pad (I rarely carry the camera out of its bag so comfort is not a major concern) and stick with the TLZ1 and see if that overcomes the issue. The other is to get a bigger bag. A quick surf suggests that bigger bags are likely to be quite a bit bigger, a drawback for general convenience and when putting in the backpack for travelling.

I want a couple of pockets for battery, filters, cards and a belt loop.

I need to go and start looking at the real thing (any recommendations for stores with a good range of bags in Lincoln or Hull?) but thought I would ask here first to see if anyone else has experience of this issue.

Thanks,

Michael

The Wein Cell you got on eBay has the correct voltage but once it is installed will lose its capacity quite quickly, that was why I stuck to the silver oxide cells with my two Spotties.

The mercury battery for the light meter is no longer available. If it is one of the earlier Spotmatics this silver oxide battery will be fine. The voltage difference does not matter as the meter has a bridge circuit.

This does not apply to the ES. Not sure about the F.

Should it be an SP500 do you realise that it has 1/1000th speed too? It's just not marked on the dial.

What was the point of your OP?

You uploaded them to Flickr yesterday and, despite the response here, they're still there.

As a soon-to-be proud owner of a Minolta Scan Dual III I'd be interested in any tips for scanning slides, especially Kodachrome 64
This partly repeats comments I made earlier in this thread which refer to experience of a Scan Dual II which may or may not be relevant to the III.

Avoid any of the scanner's own adjustment tools, just scan.

I found 905ppi scans were poorer than any other resolution when reduced to the same size on screen.

I found that going index - prescan - scan gave poorer results than index - scan. This defeated Minolta technical who could not explain it but agreed they could see the difference. Eventually I found just loading the carrier, indexing, selecting all four and scanning gave me the best result.

Dust can be a major problem. Holding one corner of the slide and flicking another with a finger hard gets rid of a lot. Just hope plastic mounts don't take exception to the treatment.
