Samsung D-XENON 50-200 lens

Does anyone know if there are known problems with this lens ?

Are there any firmware updates ?

I may have a problem with mine , but till I've tried the same sort of shots again I won't know for sure.

I certainly composed my pics carefully , I felt that the centre was in the centre of the viewfinder but when I saw it afterwards I can best describe it as thrown left , the left hand side having been cropped and the right hand side having far more included in the picture than it should have .

Any help from anyone would be greatly appreciated .

As far as I'm aware it's a re-badged Pentax 50-200 and I've never heard of any specific problem with either of them.

The lens is virtually the same as the Pentax version, a good lens.

There are no firmware updates in relation to the lens, and none could affect the optical performance anyway.

I can only think that you had your eye incorrectly aligned with the eyepiece.

Well , that is a possibility - but it's affecting 2 sets of photos done in different places - about 12 in all I think. It's not a problem I've had before .

Here's one example , and it's not the worst

I am prepared to swear that I was in the centre line of the building taking this and when I composed it in the view finder it did occupy it fully .

I have not noticed any problems with mine, I have the latest firmware installed in my K10d.

I'll try some more , once I've time but my class homework will come first and I'm occupied for 2 days this week as well .

I can't see why I should suddenly have problems aligning my eye on the eyepiece , but it's the only obvious probabliity

Not sure about the K-x. but most viewfinders only show 96 to 99% of the actual lens coverage. So that might explain it not filling the frame. just checked the K-x viewfinder has an Approx. 96% field of view(edit)

I know what you are all saying . I know that what I see in the viewfinder is not 100% what I'll get in the actual picture . I also expected to get some distortion vertically as my camera was very slightly tilted . If anything I had clipped the top and bottom slightly , expecting to get them in the finished picture .

OK I'm thinking aloud here. If you are convinced the image was in the center of the view finder. What you saw was seen through the lens, so the lens could not misalign the image. I think the same applied to the mirror and the focus screen. Unless something is covering part of one of them and giving a false edge in the viewfinder.

So I'm obviously going to have to get some more pics with this lens - and they'll need to be this sort of thing - not landscapes.

It's going to take time but I'll see what can be done

Can you try taking some with another lens to see if you get the same effect. Anything will do that has something thats supposed to be in the center. If the problem is with the camera it should still show up.

I have the photos in Your Photo sections - Symmetry 2 - they were done with the 18-55

Might the mirror be misaligned? Have you tried comparing the live view image with the viewfinder? Might be an idea to put the camera on a tripod and investigate.

OK the ones in the church it's hard to say. I think some have been cropped and the others are portrait rather than landscape. But the two at the start of the thread also show the "target" off to the left. IMO
