Lovely shots.
I've been enjoying watching some local barn owls (not got any shots near your standard) that have appeared this year where there were none before. I'm hoping these beauties are here to stay.

Bill (wvbarnes) gets a trade in of £225 for a well used k5 with 19000 actuations and a kit lens. So total cost to bill was £374. Now that is a good deal.....a real no brainer.
I have an immaculate k5 with less than 2000 (used as back up), and contacted srs for a trade trade in. They offered £175. So total cost to me would be £425. Now you cant tell me a 18-55 kit lens would add another £50 to the trade in value. Srs would sell my k5 for £349.
Perhaps it's a timing thing? Maybe they work on quotas like other sales driven offers? I know they have 8 K5 & II's on ebay....
I waited a long time on their offer for the Pentax DA*300 last year and then made my mind up and offered a Canon fit Sigma 100-300 F4 HSM EX DG among others, and they offered £200 P-x for the sigma. I thought that was particularly poor so Part exchanged it at another retailer and they offered £320 and then sold that lens 3 days later for £364.
Now I've been a customer with srs since the late 80's when I lived nearby, and have always found them a fair bunch to deal with, so I put their poor offer down to the fact that they'd probably hit their quotas on that deal.
I was contemplating the K3 and DA1.4 and was going to contact them about a px but get the feeling from your post I may have missed the boat again!

Seems I missed these earlier.... A very good selection of images, I particularly like the ptarmigan, siskin and crested tit.

Same body only launch price as the K-S1. Nice. Looks like Ricoh/Pentax may be getting a more realistic grasp on the market. Body + lens is £50 more than K-S1 but I'd expect that for a new lens.

That's a nice spec. I wasn't expecting them to add the af hold function which I assume is from the K-3. Anyone know if the SAFOX X definition includes the F2.8 centre af point or is it that outside of the definition?
I reckon we're looking at £650-£699 launch price body only, £750-£800 including lens... but I'd love to be proved wrong if it's lower......

Blimey Pentax is this the best you can show us? That flower shot is 'orrible. The out of focus white flowers and stems look like they are either suffering from motion blur or internal reflections causing ghosting. I'm certain it can do better than this. Get rid of the photographer before you post more....

Kudos to you sir.

1) Great images! Showcase quality.

2) Raynox DCR 250? Never heard of it.

3) Google is my friend and tomorrow will see an order being placed.

4) Many thanks for the post, it's been an education.

Best regards
Thanks, there should be quite a lot of info about the Raynox DCR-250 and it less powerful brother the DCR-150 on the web, with info about magnification and working distances. They are quality optics giving a lightweight portable solution to macros and closeup.

Very nice images. If you get a beast that will stay still long enough (shield bugs for example), have a go at focus stacking. It solves the dof problem.
Thanks, I have dipped my toe into stacking but just can't get on with it. Alignment issues and much time watching the egg timer spin on my older PC's. Some of the images I have seen others produce using this technique are amazing though.

Only just seen these; great stuff from such a lens. I have an old Sigma screw on macro adapter that is same size thread as the 55-300; must give it a go having seen these!

Also followed the link to your flickr page - you have some excellent photos on there!
Thanks for your kind comments. I also have a sigma macro adaptor that I use a lot with this lens (and others). It's a 'Sigma Achromatic Macro Lens'. If yours is the same it is a quality piece of +1.6 dioptre glass. In fact I rated it so good I bought a spare!

Just like to say thanks to nass for also taking the time to comment, but I missed it!

It's a very good looking camera for my type of shooting which includes low level macros. Yes there are a few things I wish they would change from my K-30 such as move the lv button back to the right hand side like my K-r, plus give me a separate ae-l and af button. However I know I can never get a customised camera for me so I'll compromise....
I was reading some reviews on the K-S1 (which I dislike) and they do rave about the improved AF speed, better resolution and improved viewfinder over the K-50 so I'd expect these all to be on this new model.
Looks like my K-r and GX-10 are going to have their last winter with me.... Although I was planning on trading them in for a Canon 70D anyway but maybe that will change.
I suppose the shutter will be as jarring as my K-30 though and not the softer tone of my K-r.

I had a similar problem a year or 2 back with pse 11. It had been running fine then one day came up with a C++ runtime error saying that the application had closed in an unusual way. I was running xp then. I tried uninstall re-install, still had the problem. I found if I ignored the error I could still use PSE 11 editor by launching directly. However I don't recall the exact solution that fixed it but it was minor, I recall having to rename one of the adobe files and starting up pse 11 and it recreated the file and ran fine after that. Having looked around the internet it could have been this file, but I'm not 100% certain (I did try a lot of things trying to fix it....!)

Maybe my brain will remember it if I stop thinking about it....... If I can recall I'll update this.

There did seem to be a few runtime errors that can be helped by renaming files and letting adobe recreate them... such as this one
