Interesting, and they do mention the Canon SLR that used similar ideas in the early 1960s. That never caught on because the viewfindwer was too dim and the technology not really up to it. I wonder how it will be received now.

Some dispute the claim it is an 'SLR'. There's no optical viewfinder. More info: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/sonyslta55/

keeping the mirror clean will be a problem for sure.... any dust on that mirror will show in the images...

but I've been wanting such a camera for some time...
can't wait for reviews...
Fired many shots. Didn't kill anything.

This is the camera I was alluding to in the other thread. Unfortunately the stills capability sounds a little disappointing.

However, this demo of the video mode autofocus seems impressive to my eye:

yeah, read that, but the real reviews are the ones that come out after the camera is in the hands of users and then any complaints or flaws will really be known...

So, Sony has made a camera without an optical viewfinder. It will be interesting to see how it does.

Strange 'watercolour effect' to the ISO 1600 shot! Interesting concept for a camera though.

Why is there a mirror then?
Only for the Phase AF?

Knowing sony (as I do, having worked for them) I'm not surprised the mirror doesn't work.

funny!

Knowing Sony as I do...
I'm surprised it didn't come complete with a new propriety lens mount, and new redesigned memory cards that only fit this one model....

now I wonder... what battery does this one take...
