Actually, one of my young friends would be able to make some very beautiful items from the white body and I am sure she will want to reach for her airbrush when she sees it!

The black plastic blob is now ell over 30 years old since the Canon T90 caused it's revolution an dthings havwe not changed much apart from sticking a sensor in the film gate so some sort of change is well overdue and camera makers are a very conservative and unimaginative lot, so something new is always interesting.

It will be interesting to see if there is now a desparate deluge of weirdly coloured DSLR's,...shades of the APS film SLR's such as the illfated 'Pronea'.

At least with a white body there is more reflection in hot/sunny climes, and white will be ok for spraying to a desired colour once the warranty runs out,....at the mo' one has to first spray white and then the colour/camopattern and wear quickly shows black edges.

Personally, I find it hard not see the whole KM product (including the white version) as a pathetic move by pentax and makes me wonder how good their thinking actually is, and what will be the next naff item instead of some real inovation.

Mike Johnston has been comparing the full-frame warhorses, D700, A900 and 5Dii,....this quote caught my eye;

To test that impression, I compared it with what is becoming my "Old Trusty," the Pentax K20D, a currently $810 camera with a really good APS-C sized sensor (and which I also don't own, N.B.) The 5D Mark II is better than the 14.6-megapixel K20D. But it's not that much better. If the 5D Mark II lags behind the D700 by not-quite-a-stop in high-ISO noise, then the K20D lags behind the 5D Mark II also by not-quite-a-stop—certainly it looks at least as good at ISO 1250 as the Canon looks at ISO 2500 (and yes, I ran the tests). And the Canon does indeed have more resolution—but not that much more resolution. A paper size, maybe? Maybe a tad less?

Yes that's of course fine for perpective corrections/controls, but there is only one way to do the work of a tilt lens and that's well, to use a tilt lens (or technical camera) The tilt lens facility is nothing to do with 'Shift'/perspective control, it's the ability to angle the plane of focus to coincide with the elements of the subject that you requirte to have optimum focus/sharpness.

Since Pentax (and some others) turned it's face to the wall about a real lens range and went for the big flashy zooms and 'bottlecap' lenses instead, there is no way out for this requirement other than the Hartblei 35mm Rotator in M42 which is also discontinued.

".......The software solution to tilt problems is the Transform tool in Photoshop..."

Well 'Photoslop' must have got MUCH cleverer is all I can say!!!

........Are you sure you don't mean 'shift problems'? So how does 'Photoslop' actually increase depth of field then? I know software is getting good but I did'nt think it could actaully make up what is not there!

There is no software make-do for 'tilt' and pentax does not make a tilt lens anymore along with other serious ommisions in it's lens range, an ddoes not seem inclined or interested in a comprehensive coverage of the once important lens types.

Also, Sony offers it's basic 10meg DSLR at only £250, at least £50 cheaper than pentax km and better designed. Important when considering that these cameras are getting to be disposable in real terms.

Whether Sony is inferior in image quality to pentax/others is academic unless one is making large prints,.....if only putting images onto the web then you don't even need a DSLR as even a compact will suffice.

I think there are a few more important advantages to K10 than have been mentioned..... The K10 is sealed against the ingress of damp and dirt etc and, vitally, has an exterior lever to change meter mode from segmented to 'spot'. This is a very important advantage as usersw of K100/k200 are forced to go into the menu system to change meter method, and make no mistake, you WILL need to do this.

There are other more subtle advantages also such as being able to remove/replace the focusing screen for a custom item (massive improvement to camera when using manual focus lenses) ...the K10 is much easier to hold and can take a grip which even greater improvement to ergonomics especially with large lenses.

Not to disagree with John about easy battery change for K10, I would point out that my 2500mAh 'Energiser' AA's in my k100 return 750 exposures per charge and are inexpensive compared to the pentax battery for k10.

I wondered the same thing......

While I was driving just now I was turning it over in my mind and wondered if they have got the graph plots or colours round the wrong way.

Of course there no obvious test of resolution in there.......

.....Resolution had BETTER be superior, otherwise all we have is a facelifted model......at best!

Quite a lot of DSLR buyers don't really have a clue about ANY of the technicalities of image quality and are interested even less, especially if it means they basically might have bought a pup!
