Safely here in Uckfield - 4 hours for 271 miles !!!!!!! That`s got to be some record ?

Cold down here too !!

When I was in Michelin - 1982/83 I was told that ANY form of advertising of the fact would have me removed !!

I`d love to my friend - but I`m a Scouser born and bred - without the accent !
I went to Scotland once 1969 - from Torquay by train - 36 hours to Edinburgh - maybe I`ll get to go again one day !!

Polchraine my friend - I am always angered when good people like yourself are conned by ne`er do well Scots tricksters ( and butchers ) into thinking that you have something you haven`t just to make your holiday more special !

Pictured are the - admittedly rare - Lesser Highland Buck Toothed Rugrats - usually hunted for their fine pelts to make dress sporrans for the Lairds. They should really not be eaten as they contain traces of Lucky Heather and Thistle which are not good for the digestive system of the human being.
The SDP ( Scottish Dinner Party ) usually would marinate them after skinning ( leave the entrails in ) and cook over a log fire on a traditional spit roast or Lallypull - basted with malt whisky and covered in oatmeal, these little critturs are a tasty addition to the crofters usual fayre when they are out Nessying or looking for the elusive Sassenach Daytripper ! I hope this clears up any mistakes and will help you to catalogue your cookery book more correctly with the right captions for the photos.

Dinner time now - only chicken and new potatoes and corn on the cob,I fear , with a light Chardonnay before tomorrow`s trek South to the tribes of E.Sussex.

Until Wednesday

Mmmmmm !!

I have to say that the Lefthands are slightly less fatty and as long as you remember to fillet them they are really tasty and handy if the BBQ is on a slope as you can place them long leg down...............

Domesticated are fine if you have a good supplier and remember that they can repeat on you can repeat on you can repeat on..................

This time of the year they would be "cuddling" or "nurdling" - in readiness for the extended Spring mating season - this means that, because of their very short legs and wonderful camouflage, they would be almost invisible to the naked eye - did you try IR photographs ? Or better still you should have found a Ghillie with local knowledge to arrange a hide for you to set up the camera and ,preferably, very long lens

How lovely to see happy Blackpuddings - they were obviously not stressed when they were caught humanely - like the Haggis - if they are caught in season then it is OK and the hunters should not be criticised by the Vegetarians and Vegans ( "we would never eat anything with a face " ).Were they trapped ,oggy, or gassed ?

I used to lay a trail of alcohol soaked seed for them before clubbing them sympathetically..........................

Oh what fun we had !!

I am not the one to give input on the subject of BBQs ---- sorry folks --I would not want boozy people all over my garden or "good" food destroyed by amateurs who think that just because they have a blue + white chef`s/butcher`s apron on , a large pair of kitchen tongs , and a silly hat , they are everybody`s answer to outdoor cuisine !

Cook it inside and eat it outdoors by all means - but in this country I see no point in spending a small fortune on a BBQ which might get used a couple of times a year.Ignorance leads to badly/undercooked/overcooked rubbish which ( because of the alcohol intake ) is usually consumed to the detriment of health or digestion.

Having said that , if the "cook" really does know what they are doing AND they know how to operate a BBQ properly AND they do sufficient imaginative preparation , then I am happy to go along and join in the festivities - especially if the beers are English and the wines RED.

Off to Uckfield tomorrow for the 2nd birthday bash so if it goes quiet for the next few days do not worry !! We are away from a computer until Wednesday.

Have a great Bank Holiday if you are having one , good week-end to everyone else.
