Agreed, there could be something in what you say, but proving it is a problem! I have read similar similar stories about bicycle magazines reviews being swayed by big brands advertising revenue, but if that were so they would read much more like 'advertorials' than they do currently.
But anyway, apologies again if I came across wrong, with retrospect there should have been a few more smileys/winks in my initial post!

Even Pentax, who I think we all agree aren't the best at marketing their products, have advertised the K-7 both pre and post launch. The ubiquitous nature of other products in the mag/web reviews might just be down to the fact they release more products?

If Pentax can't market their cameras properly that's down to them. It's not any magazine's job to do it for them.
Incidentally, a friend of mine, a Nikon user is quite convinced that magazines give Nikkor lenses a harder time than they do other makers.
I personally interpret this as meaning that the tests don't reflect his own enthusiasm for Nikkor lenses and his perception that they are always better than everyone else's. Thus, he thinks they are biased and I think they are objective!

As far as I can see, I abide by the forum rules, not 'George's Rules', and if I don't, I'm perfectly happy to be moderated.
JR: "If someone jumps ship, so to speak, then they are still welcome to join in the forum discussions, but should behave with proper courtesy and not abuse our hospitality."
Personally, I'm sick and tired of you attacking me and my posts, so please stop it.

I had the misfortune to lose 3 dogs in 2 years, two of them who'd been with me since pups to the ages of 10 and 13. Then another dog I re-homed from a rescue centre after those losses succumbed to a virus after I'd only had him for 9 short months...
Dogs are great, and amazing companions/friends, but it's so sad when they go.
It's important to remember the good times though!

In what way was I 'abusing hospitality'?!
Re your other veiled comments about posting Nikon pictures in my gallery, you must be talking about my Damsel Fly picture.
Actually, I quite enjoy this place, with the exception of one or two members, so why don't you contribute something more positive than your personal attacks on me?
And, maybe John or somebody could clear this up, but does one have to be a current Pentax owner in order to post here? If not, maybe you could tell George....
If you, and your friends, could stop yourselves from talking about Nikon whenever you get the opportunity, there would not be a problem. That is what I mean about abuse of hospitality.

Yes, people were whining, I make no apologies for saying that, it's not abusing people or this forum. It was a positive review, yet there was a lot of complaining about the picture on the front of the magazine, and it read to me like some people aren't happy unless they're complaining. It was a tongue in cheek comment, hence the smilies at the end of it. Did you miss those?
Are you really also saying that your massive post count means your views/contributions are somehow more valid than mine? How does that work then?
As far as I can see, I abide by the forum rules, not 'George's Rules', and if I don't, I'm perfectly happy to be moderated. Personally, I'm sick and tired of you attacking me and my posts, so please stop it. People use other cameras from time to time, and they talk about them, get over it.
About the only thing this forum is missing thinking about it, is an 'ignore users posts' function.
Might make it a happier place for both of us don't you think?

Marketing and the media are a hobby of mine, and it does help no end, there is an old saying “He who pays the Piper calls the tune” I think that is how it goes.
But anyway, apologies again if I came across wrong, with retrospect there should have been a few more smileys/winks in my initial post!

Just look at the front cover of the AP in question, a full 4 page review of the K-7 that was in the top left hand corner of the front page, easily missed, some have, the D300s plastered over the rest of the page.
If you managed to read my comments it was not against the AP as such more criticising Pentax’s strategy of putting out to journalists, an incomplete product, preproduction and with a lens that would not do it justice.
That was my main criticism.
I personally have decided not to buy a K-7, it does not suit my requirements, in fact I have bought another make, but I will not go into it here on this forum. But others it will suit fine.
And I was not having a dig at Nikon or Nikon users I do not care what logo is on the front of a camera as long as it does what I want it to.
As others have said, magazine front pages are there to sell magazines, and putting a popular model on the front sells them I guess, but then I don't know, as I'm not in marketing!

Ah, Tooks. He uses a Nikon, and loves to come on here and "contribute" whenever he sees Nikon mentioned.
This is his first post on here in over a fortnight. It seems a shame that he and one or two others cannot find a congenial forum which is not devoted to Pentax. After all, a splendid new forum opened recently, full of lovely people. Are Tooks and Co. not welcome there?
Some Nikon users also think it is appropriate to post Nikon pictures in the gallery.
You can see why they would miss the pleasant and civilised ways of this forum, but it is sad that they cannot refrain from continually abusing the hospitality they find here.
Bodyheat manages to post here without trying to create Pentax/Nikon discord. Is it too much to ask of the others that they attempt to do likewise?

In what way was I 'abusing hospitality'?! And do I really 'continually abuse' this place? If you count proper debate/argument as abuse, then maybe forums aren't really for you? I also enjoyed the irony in your comment, I seem to remember many threads turning ugly only when you got involved.
Yes, I commented when I read posters complaining at what was a positive review, but then most forum members don't want to live in a Pentax bubble, and maybe appreciate another perspective? Was it not fair of me to challenge what can only be an assumption around marketing spend and review results?
Re your other veiled comments about posting Nikon pictures in my gallery, you must be talking about my Damsel Fly picture. I state in the comments I posted it by mistake, but people seem to like it, so sorry if it offends you, but I haven't made a secret of it, and I'm kind of pleased you've been looking!
I came on to this thread because it was entitled 'AP K-7 Review', which I happened to have read, and wondered what others thought of it, Nikon isn't mentioned in the title.
Also, many apologies for not posting for a couple of weeks, life sometimes gets in the way, as maybe you know.
Actually, I quite enjoy this place, with the exception of one or two members, so why don't you contribute something more positive than your personal attacks on me?

The reviewer, Angela NIcholson, wrote a very bland piece in a way, and I think she was trying very hard to be fair and unbiased. So much so that little emotion comes across. This may be because AP have been given a hard time about this on their own forum, Damien Demolder as well joined in the threads and I think they have tried to rebalance.
I suspect she would be surprised if anyone thought she was biased.
One of the most critical points in the review, that of the AF performance, I can't help but feel would be helped hugely by the use of a non-screw type lens. On my K20d, the perception of faster focussing over a screw type lens, if not the reality, was apparent.
But, to be fair to her, I guess she was only reviewing the kit that was supplied.
Other than that, it was a good review I thought. I have arranged to have a play with one over the weekend, and hope I can try a few lenses with it.
