Wow thanks for your replies, now to take it all in!
Wish i could afford a Sigma 200-500 or 300-800, better still a Pentax equivalent! Have to stick with the Bigna i think.
Gwyn will have to look into your setup further, thanks for the info.
I keep trying varrious combinations SR on/off etc and have found the Bigma seams to like f16 and above for sharpness. Thats on a bright day.
I made a metal plate to fit on the tripod, placed a bean bag, camera and lens on it and that worked better.
Now to try the Manfrotto 293 long lens support.

hi,
yes i have tried a cable switch and a bean bag on top which did improve things, about to try the manfrotto 293 "long lens support" should be intresting!
As for a gimbal i have looked at them but the price is very high for a good quality one. Not a good time for a second loan!!
Even thought of building some sort of mount!!

Hi,
I am using a K10D with a Sigma 50-500 on a manfrotto 144 tripod/322RC2 head.
Anyone with suggestions on how to improve steadieness, sharpness and clarity on wild life subjects a good distance away?
thanks
