Thanks Steve - I didn't see Pentax mentioned at all in the dialogue box drop down list...
No there are no Pentax profiles with either CS5 or Lightroom.

You can however create a folder here

CrogramDataAdobeCameraRawLensProfiles1.0

and drop user created profiles into it

It is supposed to be the same engine in LR3 and CS5 that does the lens correction - maybe the full functionality will be released in a patch, as it was for CS5.
Possibly, when I checked at Adobe Forums, a guy asked the question about downloading profiles for Lightroom and he was advised to download the cs5 trial and then download the profiles from there.

Although I was under the impression that if your camera/lens combination is in Adobe's catalog, that you could pretty much import it automatically. Its just a matter that each lens/camera combination has to be done separately on an as-needed basis. You cannot simply grab a bunch of files and make it work.
You could, but the UI interface allows for the automated import of profile needed at that time.
Of course, until some Pentax profiles get put up, I guess I cannot say for sure.
That is certainly the way that CS5 is supposed to work. It reads the EXIF and it checks locally for a profile. If there isn't one there, you have the option to search online. If the camera/lens combo profile is available, it is applied and there is an option to save locally. It has to do this, for when there is no Internet access.

Note you cannot download en mass the full database of profiles. Only those that match the EXIF of the image that you are working on.

As far as I can see, there is no online search option in Lightroom. I maybe mistaken , but my sense is that the 'auto' setting just searches locally.

As I stated in my earlier post importing manually is a case of dropping the file into the appropriate directly and restarting Lightroom.

I will have access to a machine running CS5 this morning and I will open images taken with a range of lenses and then use the search online option
to check for more profiles.

Hi Stefan, on my machine they are located at

CrogramDataAdobeCameraRawLensProfiles1.0

This seems to be where Lightroom searches

and

Cocuments and SettingsUsernameAppDataRoamingAdobeCameraRawLensProfiles1.0

This is the default save location for the Lens Profile Creater Application.

There is an option in CS5 to change the default location, but I cannot find a similar option in Lightroom.

You will need to create a folder called 'Pentax' and copy the *.lcp files to that folder. The next time you open Lightroom they will appear as an option.

CS5 does things differently. When a RAW file is opened and Lens Correction is selected the application reads the EXIF data and if there is no local profile there is an option to search for a profile online. Adobe are encouraging users to send profiles to them, which they are are then masking available via an online database.

The problem I see with this approach, is that the quality of the profiles will likely vary considerably.

It would be much better if the lens manufacturers produced a standard set of profiles for the lenses/camera combinations. Given the large number of combinations this is very unlikely.

Alternatively there is an opportunity for someone with access to equipment to produce a professional set of profiles and offer them for sale.

Maybe we could set up an area to upload profiles to, or at least create a Lens Profiles Sticky where members can provide links to the profiles that they have created?

Does anyone knows if you can download lens profiles other users made for the lens correction?
Yes you can import profiles created by others, although it has to be done manually.

There are a couple of links on Pentaxforums as a starting point. one is a 10-17 on a K200 and the other is a 12-24 on a K7.
