I prefer the look of the second, but like previous comments would give up waiting for it to load.

I find the transitions on the first too harsh.

Hi Steve

I have one, I also have spare manuals for a Z-1P and P30T plus a red velvet pouch which I think originally came with the Z-1P.

Drop me a PM if interested.
Thanks Brian PM sent.

I've been collecting old primes. Had a A28mm/2.8, A50mm/1.4 and A50mm/1.7 arrive this week. The A28mm/2.8 isn't that good, might just be a duff copy. Both the A50mm/1.4 and A50mm/1.7 are excellent.
I have owned a couple of A28's (still have one). I found both quite soft @ 2.8, but not bad between F5.6 and F11.

How long is the focus throw off the lens?
If it's very short than that might be the reason.
The DA*16-50 for example is much faster than the DA*50-135 but the focus throw of the DA*16-50 is 1/2 or 1/3 from the DA*50-135.

Just throwing something out there.
Pentax have said they will keep using SDM in the DA* lenses so they must preform well enough apparently
I sure I read too, that SDM would be kept for the DA* lenses and the new design was for the mid range lenses. If that is the case it is hard too see how the motors in the lower spec lenses can be better.

Stefan may well have a point regarding the length of the focus throw.

No problems with the new version, however I did have problems with the previous version that would not let me upload using IE8, but worked fine on the same PC with Firefox.

I have the mobile version on my Android smartphone and it works pretty well.

I have owned 2 copies of this lens, which I have used as walkabout lenses on my MZ6. Apart from the rear element separation mentioned in an earlier post, they can also develop a 'rough' zoom action.

Optically the lens is pretty good, there is some distortion at the 28mm end , but not too bad. In the film days it was considered a mid range lens, a step up from the 28-80 and 35-80's that were sold in kits with many of the MZ series of cameras.

On my K10, the lens tends to be quite slow focussing, but I definitely find it superior to the MK1 18-55 above 35mm.

As for price I purchased my current copy as new old stock for £20 about 18 months ago. £50-60 seems to be the current price on ebay plus postage, so £80 is not so far away.

Hi Jim, I believe the range was at its widest in the early 80's. Nowadays a 400mm prime and or say a 135 - 400 zomm would be as long as I would want to go.
