No and no are the short, albeit disappointing, answers.

I read something on this forum very recently, can't quite remember details but I think it was an interview with some Pentax bigwig, who rather disappointingly said that the new DC drive is the consumer version of SDM. I had been hoping that it would be a dramatic improvement over SDM but perhaps that isn't the case

Was that the same interview (possibly quoted on the US Pentax forum) that said it was being pitched quality-wise above the standard kit lens, i.e. in the same territory as the 16-45 or 17-70? That would make more sense given the pricing and that it's not a DA* lens.

Hmm, I have a nice tax rebate I was going to use towards a K5 and was intrigued about this lens. It covers all the focal lengths I tend to use and essentially it come down to price...... I don't know if anyone has heard anything that might give some form of indication what the price for this with the K5 kit might be?
Hopefully it won't be too much.......
I already have the two standard WR kit lenses so not really wanting to be doubling up, and with the cashback offer it's marginally cheaper to buy the K5 with lens than the body alone!!!

Warehouse Express currently have it on pre-order at £599, already owning the DA17-70 & DA55-300 that pricing isn't likely to tempt me personallyI don't know if anyone has heard anything that might give some form of indication what the price for this with the K5 kit might be?

But like alot of things at WExpress - their pricing is not the sharpest in the market.

That's true - normally at least 30% above SRS so if we're lucky maybe around £420 But like alot of things at WExpress - their pricing is not the sharpest in the market.

I asked SRS about the kit prices and the K5 with the 18-135 was something like £480 extra.

Plus certain places (Park do it too IIRC) put the RRP as the price for preorders until they actually have stock (at which point they charge the preorderers whatever the 'real price' is)

That is a little less than they quoted me, but it was a while ago and I think it was a bit of an inspired guess on their part; probably a maximum. OK, I'll tell, it was £500 but they did give me a very good price on the K5 and were fair with a trade in, so I won't be complaining.
