I have for sale a 'A' series 70-210 F4. This lens is in pretty good condition for its age. There is some paint loss, but the glass is clear and free from fungus. A few specs of dust as usual with a lens of this vintage. Aperture is snappy and focusing is smooth. Unlike my other copy of this lens, there is no zoom creep.

This lens was very highly regarded in its day and received very good reviews. Very solid and well built, it features a one touch zoom /focus design, constant F4 throughout the range and a close up macro facility , which allows 1:4 magnification @ 70mm. The lens also has a built in lens hood.

DNG maybe supported by the industry in general, but it is not an open standard. Major manufacturers are very secretive about how they handle sensor output. They are always making tweaks and adding 'pixie dust', which is why DNG only receives tacit support from them.

As far as I know, if DNG output is chosen , Canon, Nikon and Pentax all carry out in camera conversion from their own formats before saving to DNG.

If Ricoh did decide to ditch PEF, then there is and will continue to be an option to convert as needed, so it is not something that concerns me.

In the meantime I will stay with the manufacturer developed format developed that is optimised for the camera I am using, whatever that may be.

I don't understand why anyone uses PEF when the cameras can shoot DNG
Because up to this point if I am to use a proprietary format I would rather it be PEF than one controlled by Adobe.

When the silver K3 came out you could see the camera flashes go crazy, was it the camera or the model?

You know what they say. "There will always be a new model, but a Pentax is for life"

I totally understand where Chris is coming from. AF tracking has been a concern for Pentax users for many years. Every new model is burdened with the hopes of the user base that this will be the one. So it is quite understandable to be disappointed when this major area of concern is skipped over.

That said I take John's point that he is given limited time with new equipment and so he has to make a judgement call on what to do in that limited time. Moiré was brought to the front and centre of forum consciousness with the introduction of the K5IIs and so the decision to include a section on the new Pentax solution to this problem is equally understandable.

My personal interest is getting a definitive understanding of the significance of the extra pixels on image IQ (100 - 1600). I would like to have seen uncropped and unprocessed sections of shots taken with the K3 and K5IIs using quality glass shown side by side. I personally consider the 18-135 as nothing more than an extended kit lens and struggle to see how it could possibly get the best out of either camera.

Then again what I am suggesting would take a good deal of time to complete in any credible way, so I guess I am asking for too much.

Maybe we should all lobby EPZ to put more resource into their reviews.

In the meantime, I feel that we should accept that John made an honest attempt to review the K3 given the constraints that were placed upon him.
