I heard somehwere else that the hotshoe sends out a voltage no matter if there is a flash on there or not.
I have the 540 flash which works with just the beam when you set it to Standby.
I am not sure if the camera knows if its on SB mode or if the camera just ignores it.
I remember reading that two of the pins produce a voltage for the duration of the focus of the camera when it is in AF-S mode and switch off just before exposure.
Could someone with a volt meter test this accuratley as if its true then it could mean that attaching a small voltage triggered lamp like the ones that you find on keyrings would be great.

This camera is a Gem and I hope you like it.
As you say you are a beginner I would say, please dont give in too easily. The camera is capable of a lot more than most photographers will ever really use.
Pay attention to exactly what setting you have it on as its very easy to get muddled up in what exactly is going on.
Its not an ideal beginners camera bit you will grow with it.

If you can find the grip for this camera aswell you will be rewarded!

What's the difference..??

And when is the 10 MP Slr coming out..??

Ali.
The K100D has a built in Image stabalizer whilst the K110D does not. The later will come out about a month later.

Also the 10MP camera is due to be shown at Photokina late September and will probably be released at around late November Early September.

Get some stamps to send a list to Santa.

What i am wondering is is the 10 MP sensor is made by Sony or will it be a new model by Samsung?

Nice photos.

I understand Rodinal is still available under new distribution.
I Use FX50 by patersons. Its a nontoxic vitamin based developer. gives very nice sharp and tonal results.

You will get your turn with the K10D. Do not worry about that. Dual wheel is by far the best way...
There speaks a PZ1-P owner. Hope it's still working fine!

It is still working fine. Glad you remembered. But I am getting fed up of happy slappy go shoot D350 owners. I hate that infernal machine. the contol system is so weak.
I cant wait for the new badboy. Finaly they are dropping the silly ist name and giving us some numbers.
At the moment i am endevouring to start a studio in Varna Bulgaria as soon as i am married (insidently i heard that Pentax has already released the K100 there and aiming for the eastern) keeping the PZ-1P for black and white though. I just dont see how much better any camera could be than that.

I'm just a little confused as to why Pentax appear to have re-released a couple of it's existing cameras with just one extra feature (and still no twin wheel system!)
I seriously second that comment!!!!! In a LARGE way!
Give us the twin wheels again PLEASE!!

Do not underestimate the importance of having the buttons available.
I bought a PZ1p (insidentally from George....its still great) and after fiddling around for a while trying to remenmber where everything is, i feel i can not do without the buttons anymore. The easy of switching metering modes and AP/TV modes is so time saving that i now find it critical.
One thing that i found also very interesting about the D was that it was very easy to hold. I dont know if the grip on the DS/DS2 is the same but i tried the DL and couldent figure out why it was so annoying to hold. I looked closely at the D and DL then i saw the ergonomic grip on the D.
I would personaly say that the D is more robust because of the buttons and could possibly handle better. Also memory is cheaper so you could save money there.

And yea the camera guy was a Nikon fan of course, figures, but he was nice. Personally I think Nikon and Nike have something in common, it's all about a name.
Ok

I Want to talk about this and maybee start another thread entirely. Is it possible that even though Nikon have a higher currant profile than many others, that people such as yourself would be avoiding them because of the high profile name. Could it be that some people dont want to be assosiated with Nikon or Canon because they are high profile like the Nike's and Adidas's of the camera world.

Another possibility that i would like to explore is that people dont want to admit that a particular lens that they own or a camera is superseeded by something someone else has created. I own only PK gear and wouldent trade it for the world (thats a white lie), but even though i know there are other manufacturers out there i dont like to see anyone in particular fail, and would trust to take pictures with them. I do feel that the only real othe camera i would like to explore is Minolta because it is not doing as great as Nikon or Canon. Maybee i just like to back the slightly litteler guy.

If you are looking for something really special then a Tokina 28-70mm AF f2.6-2.8 is a great idea or the more expencive 28-80mm AF f2.8 also the Sigma 28-70mm EX 2.8 lens is great. But these lenses are quite expencive. If you would be willing to fork out the money for one of these then they will increase picture quality to no end over a standard Sigma lens. Pentax own lenses are also a good bet as they are very available on Ebay and fairly cheap. One in particular stands out for a cheap but great sharp lens. The pentax 28-70mm F4 AL. This lens may not be as fast as the others i have mentioned but it is sharp and well respected in the comunity. It is also very cheap.

I hope you know what the F2.8's and f4's stand for, but if not then here is a quick rundown. The lower the number the wider the lens can open and therefore increases the light going in. This is something to note as it will also increase the amount of light getting to the autofocus sensor and therefore also increase the potential for your camera to get a good sharp focus.
Weight is also another issue to be considered here as the more expensive f2.8 lenses have a lot more glass in them and therefore weigh considerably more.
Anyway, thats all i'm going to say on the subject for now.
