Yes the red light indicated which means it was under the 4 seconds. I had been using my LX the day before which can deal with the situation unlike the Me which I think has not had enough light and so has produced the blanks. The alternative is the newly serviced camera is briken!

Hello. I have the LX and recently and when I take photos and develop them, every now and again- maybe 2 or 3 shots in 24- night or day, inside or out- I am getting what can only be described as a ray of light at the top or side of the shot. It is like a band of light and if I didnt know better I would think that the shot was carelseely taken with a high powered spotlight shining onto the scene which was definetly not the case.

I wondered whether I have a leak ? Or whether I need to block the viewfinder, but thought that the LX didn't require this.

I am assuming that it isnt my chemistry or developing technique but, then again, I am not ruling this out.

I thought that I would put this out there as I am hoping someone recognises the symptoms and can tell me what is happening.

Any advice would be welcomed once again

Hello John. Thanks for the reply.

I was walking around my town taking night shots of buildings statues etc unde eithe limited moonlight or poor street lighting or both.

What I am hoping is the camera isnt broken and the fact that the shots should have had more than light (ie more than the 4 seconds they were getting in AV)

I suppose what I want to know to be sure that this is operator error (which I am hoping for) is in those circumstances as described above would the the negatives be blank, as they were? I just have it in my mind something should be on them, however poor and if anything they would be dark not blank?

Hello. I am new and have two question, one of which I will ask in this thread.

I am a new member from England and will get round to introdcucing myself properly in the next day or so but in the meantime I wonder whether anyone can help me with a problem I am having.

I am fairly new to photography and slrs too for that matter although I a developing my own film and am hooked!

My question is this and, I think it is born of inexperience perhaps, as opopsed to a faulty camera which I recently had serviced.

I took some night shots on the auto mode which have come out blank. Other film on the camera was fine but was shot in the day.

I suspect that the shots were taken needing more than the 4seconds maximum the me super allows in auto and unlike my Pentax LX the ME Super could ot cope with this,

Does that sound like it is the problem and why I got blanks for those shots? I am sure that it wasn't a developing issue as the other shots came out.

Sorry if this is a bit basic and perhaps naive but I am hoping it is my above error which is the problem and not the meter etc as I have paid recently for a service. Any guidance would be very welcome.

Thanks John

I read that perhaps I need a yellow-green filter for portraits but again maybe not?

The cicumstances are I will be taking b and w shots at night (with poor light- street light- and using a silver, I think, reflector) of various inividuals. I am hoping my f1.7 lens will get me through on the ME super but as I am new I will have to experiment as well as take advice

I hear what you say about manual and will get a book. It just struck me as interesting that as the me super deals with aperture and shutter for you to depart from what, effectively, a computer is telling you, would lead to woe, over or under exposed or blurred photos.

Thanks again for the advice.

Hello I am new here and wonder if anyone can help with two issues I have

1 I have a red filter for the above and plan to take some b and w photos. Is this filter ok for portraits? I know it is favoured for skies. Also do I have to adjust the f stop? I think not as the Auto setting adjusts the shutter speed to compensate for the loss of light caused by the filter. However, I am stuck on the point and unsure

2 Just what is the difference between auto and manual?
Surely they both, in different ways, tell you what settings you need. I suppose in manual you can override them but why would you if the camera has it correct? I am probably missing something and look forward to enlightenment...
