Unless you actually need the money, why sell any of them?

The DA 35mm f2.4 is absolutely brilliant as a compact standard lens, while the 17-70mm is more flexible but larger. So that's one for when you stuff a camera in your pocket before going into town and one for when you're actively going out to take photos.
I see what you're saying but I don't really find the size of the 17-70 a problem as the K20D body is pretty hefty anyway, I always end up taking my backpack.

I've just picked up a Tamron 18-250 too which I'll be taking along when IQ isn't 100% critical

I'm surprised that anyone uses PEF now to be honest, DNG is less processing and more future proof - as unlocker mentions storage costs are now pretty insignificant so why not make life easy

I'm selling my DA 35mm F2.4 AL which was bought from SRS on 30/01/11 - this lens is as new, I've only used it a couple of times. The only reason I'm selling is that I intended to sell my DA17-70 and go with primes but I just can't part with the 17-70.

I'll include the original order details (printed from my SRS account) so the warranty should be transferrable - please check this with SRS if you want to be 100% sure though.

Price is £120 including RMSD

I'll post some photos when I can

After recently acquiring a DA12-24mm and a couple of primes (Da 35mm F2.4 & FA 50mm 1.4) I had every intention of selling my DA 17-70...having been out with it today though I've decide it's just too good to be without, it really is a terrific landscape lens - the colour/contrast certainly seems a match for the 2 primes, I'm even tempted to say that it actually betters them.

Oh well, after all the deliberation about starting to use primes I think I'm back where I started - I may even sell the DA35mm F2.4 & just keep the 50mm F1.4

another happy Redsnapper owner here too - the Aly version although I am considering the CF version at the moment for the additional weight saving

I've just picked up an FA50mm 1.4 from here on the forum & whilst it's early days yet my initial impression is that it looks an excellent lens, certainly fast to focus on my K20D, very nice Bokeh - it appears to lack a little contrast wide open but it's very good around f2.8.

That's where most mistake happen. Most people use the zoom to frame the main subject, and completely forget what the background or foreground looks like. The zoom should never be used as a substitute for the proper point of view, unless there is no way to get to the proper point of view.
I sort of see what you're saying but it doesn't really differ from my own point which is that you need to think about composition regardless of whether you use a prime or zoom...I don't agree that one makes you think about composition more than the other

Anyway I'll be putting it to the test even more as I'm now considering selling my DA17-70 having just bought the DA35mm F2.4 & FA50mm

A well loaded question in the OP.

Primes in most situations. I shoot 70-200 as a virtual standard lens yet a zoom lens by default is a compromise. It removes a thought process which, in itself, negates self discipline.

A zoom lens is the modern equivalent of a disposable point and shoot.

It' the equivalent of poor comprehensive education.

Its a flexible stepladder to self discipline.

Strong point of view?

You bet.

Yes and its mine and maybe not yours.

Best regards
I have to admit that it's not mine

The thought process still needs to take place regardless of the lens used...a prime means you need to walk about more, a zoom means you need to zoom in or out more - if you fail to walk with the prime or zoom with the zoom then you'll probably end up with a poor photo in each situation.

Just my take on it

I've been a National Trust member and definitely found it value for money at the time...the NT propoerties are very expensive.

Now I live in Wales though membership isn't so worthwhile as the number of properties are limited, many are owned by CADW and individual entrance prices tend to be far lower than NT places anyway.
