Thanks for the feedback, it's a place I've visited often in the 3/4 years but during that time I've only seen decent reflections perhaps 2/3 times.

Frogfish - these were all shot in Raw and to be honest in-camera capture was pretty much spot on (even if I do say so myself!!) - I used to use bracketing but rarely see the need for it prefering to use either manual or exp compensation in AV mode - it's more likely to be my processing skills, or lack of, that might not be getting the best from these shots.

Wonderful morning in Snowdonia today, made it worthwhile getting out of bed at 4.30am !!

I spent most of the time around Llynnau Mymbyr looking for some new angles..here are a few I tried

In my opinion:
18-135 F4-F5.6 - center is very sharp, borders are little soft, corners are much more soft
17-70 F4 - center is sharp, borders and corners are only little soft

18-135 F8 - center is very sharp, borders and corners are little soft
17-70 F8 - center is very sharp, borders and corners are sharp

CA is only big problem in 18-135 in range 100-135 (unavailable in 17-70 )
colour rendition - is the same
contrast - is little better in 17-70

I think that most important is AF reliability in 18-135 (if AF miss your photo is blur and even fantastic optics not help...)
AF in 17-70 is not bad... but AF in 18-135 is simply better

If you want I can share my test photos.

P.S.
Sorry but my English is horrible.
Thanks for the information, very useful - no need for the comparison photos

Simon - I can't make my mind up about this image but I reckon Andrew (Bwlchmawr) will already know where it is

As you seem to be around Llangollen recently perhaps at some point you should show me how it is done
It definitely could do with Andrews processing touch...unfortunately Photoshop isn't a strongpoint of mine but on the plus side it does make me try harder to get out in decent lighting - this was a hiking day not a photography one, although as per my walk on Llantysilio mountain last week it's given me a few more ideas for shots.

You raise a valid point here - perhaps a Bwlchmawr tutorial may be of use - commission please Andrew

I'm certainly planning more photography trips around Llangollen & the Clywdian hills in future as there's some great scenery that's much closer to home - I'm not sure you'd learn anything from me though Stu !!

If you are around this area (Langollen/ Cefen Mawr) on the bank holidays perhaps we could find out - I can learn something new almost every day - Isn't life great
No problem Stu, if I'm planning anything I'll drop you a PM - always good to share a few ideas, I'm learning all the time myself - I'm beginning to think I need to go on a photoshop workshop though!!

Another lovely day today so had a wander above Llangollen again, came across this looking rather out of place. This time I've deliberately been a little OTT on the processing as i thought it sort of suited the subject, interested to see what others think

thanks

It's not very well known but Alfred Wainwright spent some time around the Snowdonia mountains as well as the Lake District. Although he didn't produce any walking routes he made a series of 101 sketches from his favourite viewpoints, these were published in the form of a sketch book in 1982.

A couple of years ago myself, several other photographers and a local publisher, with the permission of Wainwrights estate, set out to recreate Wainwrights sketches as photographs and the project has now completed. Sorry for the commercial link but there's a free sample that gives an idea of what's been created - just thought it might be of interest.

I've posted a few times recently about thoughts on my lens line-up and how I decided I couldn't be without the DA17-70.

We'll here I go again as my K5 purchase is probably on hold for a while!!

I'm interested to here from anyone who has owned both the Da17-70 and DA18-135, most importantly I'm wanting info on how the colour rendition/contrast & CA handling compare. WR/DC are nice to haves but on their own won't convince me to move from the DA17-70

thanks

Price on their website is £999 today
Obviously sold out of the ones at £929 - I emailed them & the stock is genuine UK stock, supplied with 1yr Pentax warranty + 4 from themselves. I'm holding out for a price drop anyway as I'm in no rush but I'll definitely keep them on my radar
