The Coed Y Brenin forest in Snowdonia hides some wonderful waterfalls - these are two of the best, Pistyll Cain and Rhaeadr - accessed from Ganllwyd

The 2nd shot grabbed my attention the most, very nice abstract

Tha last couple of posts have made up my mind that I'm 100% keeping the DA12-24 - I'd forgotten that when I went to China last year 90% of my city shots were taken with it, many at 12mm and without it they just wouldn't have been possible.

Now when it comes to landscape shots however the DA 15mm still intrigues me, I want to see just how good thet "pixie dust" is so I'm taking the earlier advice and loaning one from SRS, it might just make sense for me to own both

Thanks for the replies - what I expected to be honest. When I first considered UWA I churned through no end of reviews and the majority were pro the 12-24 regarding IQ.

One thing about the 12-24 though is that it doesn't have those Pentax colours and I'm very much taken by them on my DA17-70 and DA55-300 - I guess the other option would be to own both but that could start something I might just live to regret

I'm currently deliberating (again) about my curremnt lens line-up, mainly at the wide end of things. I have the 12-24 and have recently had some excellent shots from it but having read a few more reviews on the DA15mm recently wonder if I'm missing out on the infamous "pixie dust".

Just interested on peoples views on swapping a 12-24 for the 15mm?

Thanks

I'm certainly no expert judge but it would definitely be the first for me for the following reasons...

excellent foreground detail, nicely balanced, great lighting

The others are nice enough but don't have as many strong elements as the first for me, unfortunately with competitions though you never really know what the judges are looking for, good luck !!

I must admit that I can be a little obsessed by image sharpness sometimes, my pet hate is soft corners and I've sold lenses because of this (18-55 kit lens and Sigma 10-20)- I'm not really happy having to resort to Photoshop to try and sort it out, I want the best sharpness I can get straight from the camera.

I'm definitely much more on the "get it right in camera" side of things although the main reason for this is more to do with the fact that I find that side of photography infinitely more enjoyable than sat at a PC for hours on end, I also get much more satisfaction from my photography that way too - even if I did become a Photoshop "wizard" it just wouldn't be the same.

Having said this there's clearly a need for both with digital photography, especially if you shoot raw as processing is unavoidable,it is up to the individual where they prefer to focus their efforts though and the reality is that either method can produce stunning images

Sounds familiar to me this one, had the same issue when I first ventured into the use of colorspace - I had an issue with greens when using Argb in photoshop instead of Srgb, worth checking?

For the record I only ever use Srgb now and have no real issues with matching display & prints

Buying a hardware calibration device definitely makes life easier when it comes to calibration, as Carl mentions using the right printer profiles is another important part of the process
