thanks PG, as mentioned the wedding will be under a marquee so thats why i wa thinking of a long lens for some of the shots for that, i didnt think my 18-55 would be that useful even though i could get group shots....... JohnX wrote:

For ceremonies, having a long lens can be a God send. It allows you to get close ups of the couple and wedding party, the reaction shots, the one of the mother of the bride tearing up, etc. So many possibilities.I would have thought that for weddings you'd be looking to get up close? hey all, thanks for all your input, come to think of it, i will trust your judgements and EXP, and take it all on board, the wedding will in june, and under a marquee thats the 1st part of it the second i dont know yet, but for the nights shots ive got my 50 1.7 cleaned and ready for work, my 18-55 well thats just sat in my bag now for the big day to come.
i got an old 135mm 2.8 M42 macro lens i dont know if that will cut it because i really dont want to be spending the whole time trying to manually focus, I'm lucky in respects that its not in winter sod that, i do have a 3rd body if everything decides to pack up and a spare 28-80 3.5 AF and about 10 rolls of film, not to mention 20 B&W film, i cant seem to use it all.
step ladder na, ive got a few ideas because i know the location inside out.
I still have tonnes to prep for it though but hey its all good.

im trying to get as much advice as possible before hand, ive been told by my studio manager to go out and take some practise shots in advance so hopefully that will help in terms of getting the lighting right and the cam settings too.....

im going to be using the long lens for quite a few shots i have in mind, and trust me ive seen a fair few big time togs in my area with long lenses shooting a wedding with their fancy NIKON and CANON pro cameras......I would have thought that for weddings you'd be looking to get up close? 1 i saw on saturday without a flash shooting the whole ceremony and it was in a reg office, which is bad enough.....
I wont be using the long to its full extent probably bout half or 3/4's of it

Adqam, i do have a second kit but its a bronica medium format thats mainly going to be for some formals and B&G shots only..Are you being paid to be the official photographer?

I am the official tog yes, and no im not getting paid because its a friends wedding. they will cover the developing costs they asked me to do it for them because they are helping me build up a portfolio to get started in the wedding tog industry...

its mainly gonna be for outdoor shots, seeing as the wedding will be outdoors.
