If your printer is still on it's first cartridges after a year then it probably makes more sense to use a reliable Print Lab, you can get a lot of top quality large prints fully mounted and framed for £1000.

Are you aware that the later SP500's had the 1/1000th of a second shutter speed? Not marked on the shutter speed dial there is another 'click' after the 1/500th of a second position, this will give you 1/1000th of a second. So the only difference between the cheaper SP500 and the more expensive SP1000 was the writing on the dial.

Some very nice shots, the shot I am drawn to is the teasels, just really like that one, have you tried or planning to have a pop at some macro shots with it?
I'm not sure that macro would be its forte as I think the focussing would be difficult. Not because it's not capable, but because focussing on such minute depth of field with the screen some distance from the eye might cause a problem. I will try it though and see because I may be surprised!

Most of the ones in this thread were shot one-handed - this is where the camera excels as it's very easy to take some quick shots this way, especially with the DA 40mm F2.8 XS lens attached which add so little weight.

David
The K-01 is also great as a studio camera on a tripod, in studio macro is a breeze as the focus peaking shows you what is in focus and exactly where the plane of focus is.

A cheap set of bellows and an old but decent 50mm lens (an old Takumar M42 50mm lens for instance) work at least as well as a dedicated Macro lens, and are a fraction of the price off eBay. As you have to stop the lens down with this rig, you can see the DOF your going to get with focus peaking and adjust accordingly.

Add a TTL flash off camera and every shot is a keeper.

As MattMatic said try a new battery, always the first thing to try no matter what the fault, the largest %age of camera faults can be traced to a bad battery, it's the most stressed component in any camera.

If you do need to get a new body SRS are listing them at £99 in white or black, if you tell them your user name on Pentax User (this site) you will get free next day carriage.

I decided to get extra batteries for my Q in anticipation of going on holiday, but reluctant to pay full whack for oem ones, cast an eye about for something cheaper than oem.
I was hoping to save on the price but not on the power (the originals being designated as 710mAh and I've often come across replacement batteries which whose mAh figures are well down on oem specs).
So when I came across these on ebay I could hardly credit either price or power but decided to take a chance on them anyway & have placed an order.
They won't be here for a while yet- all the way from China to come- but here's hoping
The Q uses a standard generic NP-50 3.6V battery, it's used with quite a few other cameras, mainly Fuji and the Pentax Optio. Search for NP-50 batteries on eBay and you'll find lots in this country for around £3.00 - £4.00 each P&P included.

They are usually 1200mA/H rated.

Correction Ken, the last one is a stack of 5 and it's from my Pentax K-01 on a conventional BPM bellows, same lens, many apologies.

Hi Ken

The first bluebottle shot was a stack of just two, could have done with 3, the last one is not stacked.

A few months ago I made a bellows attachment for my Q using a small bellows bought off eBay and a Takumar 50mm lens. The camera mount is a D - Q adapter, the whole kit only cost around £50.

I've taken the usual flower shots with the bellows less than halfway extended.

Then I found a dead bluebottle on our windowsill and took these.

Pretty impressive for a camera that cost me £99.00.

I would go (have gone) with the excellent Pentax DA primes, a 3 lens kit of the 21mm, 40mm, and the 70mm and a Pentax K5 is a marriage made in heaven for sheer image quality.
