Probably still a bit early for this sort of thing, but I found this today. Despite the poor sound quality, I think It's beautiful.

By Steeleye Span.

If the pesky carol singers that knock on my door at this time of year had a bash at this, instead of a half hearted mumble of Good King Wotsisname, I'd be inclined to give 'em a mince pie!

It's only on Youtube that the sound quality is poor. The original is very fine.

Crackerjack and Stewpot as added Bonus..... Brilliant!!

The best folk singer I ever saw was Bernard Wrigley, unfortunately
singing songs like "The Ballad of Knocking Nelly and the 99er" got
him banned from most places and he never got the fame he deserved.

No Knocking Nelly on youtube but here's a bit of a mix:

Thanks Guys!
I only knew All Around My Hat in the Irish ballad version (I was at the Dubliner's first big gig at the Gate Theatre in Dublin back in about 1964). Now I can add Steeleye Span to the list of stuff to look for in the Charity shops.

My husband saw them at uni. I was a mere child at the time.

Somewhere we have the Bert and John LP. I used to enjoy listening to that.

Gwyn.

It's a video of Status Quo murdering 'All around my hat', with the assistance of an elderly Maddy Prior. - It's a blessing that you can't see it!
