Doh! - Thanks for pointing me in the direction of the manual. As you've probably realised I have'nt had much experience in using flash.

Thanks for the response.

I use the takumar in Av mode.

Reading through the manual again it appears that using the pop-up flash in Av mode the shutter speed is fixed at 1/150th sec when any lens other than an FAJ, FA or F series lens is used. Shooting wide open with the Takumar (at the lowest ISO setting of 200) gives a washed out photo but stopping right down gives an acceptable exposure with the flash - so I imagine it's just a matter of trial and error to get the right aperture. Perhaps the K10D allows more control over the pop-up flash?

Hi, I've taken to using an SMC Takumar 85/1.8 lens on my DS body with excellent results using ambient light. However at low light levels the built in flash usually results in very washed out pictures. Are there any settings I can change to avoid this problem?

Thanks,
Rowdy

I've aquired a second hand FA 28-105 f3.2-4.5 (manual zoom) and tried it out on my DS. It does appear a little soft at 28mm but CA appears to be well controlled. It will make a useful travelling companion. Intrestingly in the same test my old Pentax-A 35-105mm f4 zoom appears to be slightly sharper across the range, although I can't rule out that the easier manual focusing may be a factor.

Hi, I'm looking to for a lens to supplement the kit 18-55mm lens that came with my DS. I'd be interested in any experience with the above mentioned lenses which might also be used on my manual bodies (MX or LX).

Thanks,
Rowdy

Hi, I'm also after a hood for the 28-105mm, have you managed to track one down?. I found Pentax UK were no help whatsover - they couldn't even find the part number in their system.

Regards,
Rowdy

I've recently aquired one of these for use on a DS, with the object of using it for flower photography and occasional architectural detail closeups, where a max 1:2 magnification should be sufficient. I'd be interested in hearing about experience with the lens. I'll be comparing it to a standard Pentax-A 50mm f1.4 used on a Teleplus 2x macroconverter (I believe eguivalent to a 100mm f2.8 with a max 1:1 magnification or 150mm on the DS taking into account the crop factor), which I thought might make a useful travel combination.

Thanks
Rowdy

Thanks for all the info. It's reassuring to know the SMC 85/1.8 performs well on the *ist DS as I've just bought one. but haven't had a chance to do an in depth evaluation.
