More fun with the iMac, yesterday it completely screwed itself up so a trip today to the "local" Apple store 20 miles away and hoiking a 27" computer into a shopping centre. Good news, repair completely free. Less good news, it is now unable to access the "time machine" on which everything including software is saved so laboriously downloading everything again. Worst aspect: phone the store and you get an automated voice saying "I can understand whole sentences!" Unfortunately not in the rather ripe language I had resorted to, and never of course to the store in question. A whole day spent and everything almost back to normal. So how was your day?

The promotion so far is all about the new pentaprism, for which Ricoh are justifying with their campaign about how optical viewfinders allow more creativity - at least that’s what I think is being said. They have tried to find a way of countering the popularity of mirrorless without criticising which is sensible but it is going to need a much more dynamic and powerful promotion if this is to work, the critics won’t be as deferential and polite as what we have seen so far. Whilst this might be its unique selling feature the camera is going to need a whole package to make it competitive.

The approach might just work in the long term, much like Leica takes for its rangefinder M series with it’s purist message of being for serious photographers; who else would get away with cameras and a limited range of lenses these days costing thousands with manual focus only and an optical viewfinder?

Only half an hour? Mrs. RobL takes all morning! Glad to see your time wasn’t wasted, I especially like the last one.

Still under development? Surely it should be going into production by now for a launch soon.

News just in that the south-west has the highest infection rate in the country now due to thousands of prats smothering the beaches like a Biblical plague of locusts. Well that’s just great, I hope I can visit my socially distanced holiday caravan in Cornwall again some time soon. If only they had been able to take their Covid-ridden bodies abroad!

Sorry, I am in a foul mood watching my pension pot diminish faster than a leaky bucket thanks in large part to the US President’s masterful managing of the US economy.

Possible aperture block failure ?
I doubt it, in Joats’s description of the window test he sets the aperture first on different lenses so I am guessing those are set on the lens rather than in camera, in which case the green button is unlikely to work - this is a temporary auto mode so needs to modify aperture, speed and ISO, as prioritised in the presets. Even if they are auto lenses they are likely to give different results arising from their differences in construction and light transmittance.

Anyhow I am sure SRS can sort something out.

My solution now is to keep a Pentax AF201FG in the bag - it's a surprisingly good, compact, Weather resistant, bounce, P-TTL and manual (including 1/4 power setting) flash unit and what a bonus to find that it works with the Ricoh GRIII
I will second that, and also use it perched on top of the camera mounted Cactus trigger as a secondary flash. A little gem nice and light with just two AAA batteries.

It sounds as if you are changing/fitting lenses in live view which isn't good practice as the sensor is exposed, and the manuals recommend turning the camera off when doing this anyway. When you activate Live View the mirror is raised for the sensor to receive the image and switching to playback will flip the mirror back down, switching back to Live View will reverse the process. I cannot explain your second issue but if you switch the camera off and follow the above advice, only switching to Live View after you have inputted the lens focal length (it only needs this for IBIS) then maybe it will stabilise.

Excellent, I love the one where it looks as if the comet is dropping straight down onto Stonehenge!
