There are plenty of reasons and options for an action / wildlife photographer to switch from Pentax but no compelling reason for others to switch to it.
How about probably the best landscape camera on the market today? Not my words but a review of the K1 when launched.

A lot of conclusions jumped to here! Traditionally Pentax have offered more than the other brands for less cash - the K1 is still cheaper than the D810 even at the new price. No reason to think that would change.

My question was is the FA 24-70 worth it. I am taken with how close it will focus, 38 cm, and here are some from my garden today. Comment Image

Yeah I don't think you should be able to enable auto/floating ISO in Manual mode, given that's actually TAv.
True but I didn't realise it was set like that, nor that instead of the auto ISO deactivating in 'M', the 'M' setting changes instead.

Thanks Walt, that sorted it!

I just wish there was more choice in the 100-200mm range; the DFA 70-200* is very large, heavy and expensive and I gather that the 200mm prime will work in FF but the quality suffers around the edges.

Well I took the plunge and bought the FA 24-70 from Hullman, I confess I didn't take much persuading. So thanks Andy and great to finally meet. Just playing so far but it looks promising, focus is quick and sharp in poor light and it is for twilight and interior shots I really wanted it. I will give it more of a trial at a photography day course on Friday. Changing between the FA 24-70 and the FA 28-105 really highlights the difference in size and weight so I am sure there is a place for both. Andy still has the DFA 70-200* if anyone is interested.

I don't use the K50 much but I switched it on just now and found that turning the mode selector wheel was fine except when it came to 'M' where it displayed 'TAV' instead. I tried replacing the battery but no difference, also checked it has the latest firmware version. Any ideas anyone?

When I was a young lad I had to make do with a Kodak Cresta, it took another sixty years to progress to a K1!

Hi Rob

I won't comment on the quality of the 24-70 as others are doing that and I don't want to appear biased, but if you decide you want one I stall have a mint copy available for sale for a great deal.

Cheers
