Yes I have a disc copy of LR5 but when I bought it, it was Lightroom 5.0 (I think). With Adobe updates it is now LR 5.7

I will (might) be able to install LR5 onto any new computer via the disc, but the updates to LR 5.7 won't be available.
They just might be, there was an update on LR6 before the latest change to Classic and I was able to download that again.

Aah, Nigel, that’s why the dinky AF201 is always in my bag!

Pschlute, it depends on how many cartridges the printer has, I am guessing that only the more expensive models will be comparable. Having just bought a mid range Epson SureColor P400 I am willing to bet the results are as good as a lab; the paper also makes a difference which you have more control over, I use high white gloss for punchy colour and a matt white baryta paper which renders misty seascapes and the like beautifully. I can do a trial print on a 4x6” first before the final larger print and I am not waiting for the post every time.

The reason I picked Epson over Canon is that it is slightly smaller and fits neatly into the recess in my storage unit! I think the cartridges are slightly cheaper as well but not much in it.

Ps one of the reasons for clogging is dust, instructions say to always close the printer up after use and keep covered if not being used for a while. Also clean the rollers as papers deposit fine fibres apparently.

I use Lightroom 5 which as it is is quite satisfactory for my needs. Luckily we use Pentax cameras which will save raw as a DNG file so no need to convert. My other camera is a Panasonic FZ1000 bridge camera. On import into Lightroom I convert to DNG.

My concern is that as long as Lightroom 5 works ok then I'm happy, but should I change computers and LR5 becomes unavailable to download (which it will) and Adobe then scraps the free DNG convertor then I'm stuffed.

That is why I'm currently investigating Paintshop Pro and ACDSee.
I also have Serif Affinity which I bought as an introductory offer for £29.

There are just two A4 ranges, Epson Expression and Canon Pixma, both with a few models, all under £200. Take a look at a photography retailer site like Park Cameras to see the different models, basically the more inks it has the better. Also a couple have an extra cartridge to improve black and white rendition but lose one of the colour ones so it depends on whether that is your thing. The Epson Expression 960 might also be worth a look at £229 as it is not much larger than an A4 printer but can manage A3.

A couple of nice things about printing your own, you get to experiment with different papers and it completes the creative process in a more satisfying way than a postal service.

It seems that despite Adobe's promise that Lightroom would stay stand-alone 'indefinitely' they have now reneged so unless you go over to subscription and write off your original purchase cost then there will be no more updates including new lens profiles. Disgraceful behaviour and Adobe not to be trusted, what's the bet that once enough have been hooked the subs will increase? I will keep Lightroom 6 as long as possible but want no more dealings with this outfit.

Just stupidly clicked on ‘upgrade’ and my stand-alone Lightroom 6 changed to Lightroom Classic on a 1 week trial with log-in required. You can guess what will happen in seven days! Had to reload my original software but suppose I will be plagued with messages now telling me my trial has expired.

For wildlife it appears Canon is favourite with focus capability and lens choice, Pentax is not alone in concentrating more on other fields so if you have a particular area of interest it makes sense to go where that is served best. Kevriano, a camera or lens is not an “investment” unless it generates an income from which the outlay is recouped. Accept that spending money on an interest is just that and be prepared to write it off.

Is Lightroom 6 not still available? I have been forced into a subscription based software for work, where what would been a one-off payment now only buys three years. It is a trend many are moving into for obvious financial benefit to the company but none for the user, as it appears the loss of incentive to develop the software is resulting in diminishing upgrades. Hopefully other developers will see the opportunity to launch viable alternatives as I for one will not buy into a subscription service for a hobby nor when other options are available.

Who makes a 500/600 f4 for Pentax?
Who's got £8,000 to buy one (or even up to £11,000 depending on the make?)

But this one's close and affordable: https://www.srsmicrosystems.co.uk/sigma-50-500mm-f4-5-6-3-dg-os-hsm-lens-pentax-...
That's the thing. Pentax would charge more than equivalent Canikon, but I'd be willing to invest. That said, the K3 II still can't focus track like Nikon et al.
I've tried that Sigma, it's not as good as the 150-450 by a long chalk. I own that lens and it's great (see my Osprey shots), but I want 600mm...
I have a film era 2x telecoverter which takes my 150-450mm up to 900mm potentially. However I did a comparative test on a K1 with that combo and without the teleconverter but cropped; the latter was slightly sharper. Point is, with the superb sensor on the K1 you have much more scope for cropping and still get great results and not need to carry a bazooka lens.
