Just a gentle wry comment about having too much gear and risk stifling creativity. Today I went out with one camera which I am not allowed to name which has a fixed focal length of 23mm on APS and the K5 plus 4 lenses in the bag. How many lenses did I use on the K5? One - the 70 Ltd. I took more with the un-named camera than the K5 because it's so simple to use and always delivers. Having two cameras was a dratted nuisance really but just now and then I needed the 70.

We are all different but I recommend taking just two lenses like the 21 Ltd and the 70 Ltd and one body it's liberating. And now I'll quite rightly be told to shut up and p*ss off. I'm used to it.

Oh I often pick just one, probably the 43 if truth be told and have a wander around Cork doing some street shooting. If I am attending a gig, I'll pack 3, 43, 50 f/1.2 and 77 and jump between them depending on the bands. I get the most keepers with the 50 though, just get into a MF zone, leave it at f/2, shutter at 1/50 and TAV.
Still learning the 31 , only have it a few months.

Huh? 2 are mounted on K-5's at any given time and the rest always in a bag nearby.
I was thinking of selling on the Ks, the FA50 f/1.7 and a bunch of Taks that I also have and putting them towards another Zeiss (Distagon T* 2.8/25)

Big shakeup of my bag coming up in the next few hours so I took this as a reminder

If you had this lot, which is soon to be joined by a Zeiss T* 50/2 Makro-Planar... what would you do?

Thanks Robbie for sharing your experience with these lenses! I have already plunged into a purchase of a SMC A50mm f1.2 But I hope someday I will be able to add a FA43 to my collection.

Your suggestion about selling the M50 f1.4 makes sense, I will try to sell it here in Norway together with my MX cameras, and in this way finance my latest acquisition

Very nice images, by the way!

Best regards
Bjørn
Congrats on your purchase, welcome to the F/1.2 club!
I have one of my K-5's kitted out purely for MF with a KatzEye focusing screen and the O-ME53 magnifying eyecup to really nail focus @ f/1.2
Other useful addon would be from Nikon... a NH-3 lens hood to protect the big front element.

Different animals altogether. A50 f/1.2 is a bit specialized in that it is MF and capable of navigating the dreamy world of wider than f/1.4, but it is worth it for that alone. Stopped down and its sharpens up nicely. I have a sneaking suspicion that at f/2.8 it is actually sharper than the other 50s.
The 43, half the size, half the weight with AF, very very sharp in the centre with great contrast. Put it on the camera and it just delivers time and time again. At f/4 or f/5.6, it is so sharp it will make you cry.

You will be looking at £300 or above for an A50 f/1.2. It will immediately make your M50 obsolete in your bag and while the K55 is possibly a better portrait lens, the A50 will still deliver. If it was me?
I would sell the K55 for £50 to £60, the M50 for £120 or so and beg, borrow and save for the FA43. Give it a couple of weeks usage, and it will sink in just how good it actually is. Keeper rate wise it is in another league compared to the A50 f/1.2. Don't get me wrong the 50 is marvelous but it can be hard work whereas the 43 is effortless.

£225 to £275 for a K, £375 to £450 for an A depending on condition. Budget in a split prism focussing screen as well, kinda useful with one of these.

Bump!

£40 shipped, and with a nice new Pentax front cap as well. I'll throw in a non oem M42 adapter as well.
