Just ran the update on my 48 ran through without a hitch... Now to find time to see if it's made the already reliable Flash better!

Glad to hear it mate

A lot depends on who you've got working at the retailer, sounds like you had a crew that cared.

Which is, actually, the correct legal position. As someone who works in the service industry, I'm constantly amazed by the differences in reactions to people. Some people, when told that the agreed service route is with the manufacturer, go nuts and point out their contract is with the retailer. Yes, it is, and the retailer has a contract with the manfacturer that says to refer to the manufacturer for repairs.

On the other hand, some people refuse to accept being told that we'll be repairing the item, and insist on talking to the manufacturer...

Ah well...

At the end of the day, you buy an item from a retailer, your contract is with them. If it becomes faulty, you should contact them. Theymay have different Service Level Contracts with different manufacturers, but that isn't your concern, as such. If you contact a manufacturer directly, it's up to them if they decide to help, or refer to retailer, and often, that decision is guided by Service Level Contracts.

Welcome to the wonderful world of consumer support, where quite often you're damned if you do and damned if you don't.

Point being, that you shouldn't be having to choose either option

From my personal experience, I've never been stopped by a PCSO or Police Officer while taking photo's around London, but I have taken the precaution of printing out a copy of the "Photographers Rights", and will vigorously, but politely, defend my rights in the face of illegal requests.

This is a very useful guide to the Sales of Goods Act.
It's from the traders POV, rather then the typical web info, so will give a more realistic idea of what the retailer will do.

The flow chart on page 8 in particular is useful.

If for nothing else, the information and guides on how to create snoots, lightboxes and a whole slew of other accessories makes it very worthwhile.

Couple that with his writing style, and the wealth of "how to's" that the site has, and it well deserves it's place on my bookmarks.

IMHO of course

Road-Dancer,

Many thanks - just downloaded the K-m manual - quicker than finding it in the study! - and using the moggy as a not very happy subject - works just fine.

Many thanks to all - who helped, and sorry for such a silly Q (Flash is all new to me)
Glad to help, it's not amazingly intuitive to start with, but once you get your head around the wireless options, you open up a whole new realm of possibilities. I have two flashes and some cheap ebay triggers for manual work, and use the pop up flash and my Metz 48 as slave for optical wireless work.

You will need to look in the custom settings to set the pop up flash to controller. That should stop it from contributing to the overall exposure, well, more or less.

The wireless mode needs a flash to set off the off camera flash.

The only other option is a p-ttl cable, or a radio flash and manual mode.
