since i started this post I have cropped once and removed background and tried to save four times and it says file to big (over 2mb)
Hmmm, that being the case...
I am just looking up some info and it seems to point to the issue being that XP Home cannot handle files over 2G! Anyone else able to confirm if that is true?
If so, you need a better OS for doing large scale projects.
With a 2G filesize limit, it isn't even worth upgrading your RAM to 3G until you go to XP Pro or any OS that can use larger file sizes.
Basically, I suspect your temp file needed for PS to operate (and probably the temp file needed for the OS to operate) are getting near their top end and causing a lot of slow down. You are not yet memory bound, with nearly 1G free RAM, but everything that normally gets swapped out to disk is fighting hard to reorganize itself to fit in your memory/disk space configuration.
Sadly, it appears you need an OS upgrade, possibly a memory upgrade... and in a worst case scenario a motherboard upgrade. (my guess is that the motherboard is sufficient and you do not need to worry about that... an AMD64X2 dual core mother board should almost certainly handle 4G of RAM)
FAT max filesize = 2gb
FAT32 max filesize = 4gb
NTFS max filesize = size of partition.

but really...its a horrible waste...

Thats my thoughts, but maybe I am thinking personally about it and what i could do with a camera like that.
I hear what you say about getting the right people first but unfortunatley I am not hiring and they get hired on their writting ability first and foremost.
My first thought was a Kx, but then i think they are never going to change a lens on it so why bother?

I have a problem and could use some advice.
I work for an auction house that holds classic car auctions. The two guys that produce the catalogue for the auction have requested a dslr to take photos to go into the catalogue. They have no photography experience and would just be setting on green mode, pointing and clicking. The catalogue is a high quality publication so we need good quality photos to use in print at 7 x 5 ish size.
My initial thought was a dslr would be too much camera, too big to lugg around the country, and a waste if just using green mode.
So i suppose i am asking if anyone can recomend a compact, bridge or micro 4/3 camera that will do the job. Or would a dslr be the way to go?

Looking at the vote, 60/40 is not massivley in favour and with only 16 votes I dont think it says anything really.

I voted 'No', but to be honest it's a little odd when someone who rarely (if ever?) enters the two existing competitions then puts up a poll about adding more of them.

I certainly havn`t , it seems odd to me. I`m sure there would be some demand.
