DrOrloff, saying that K5 trumped D700 is comparing apples to bananas , two different cameras, for different market, requirements, also produced in different years.
I think Pentax showed again good marketing doesn't exist there, i.e.d they had this 360deg camera there, but it wasn't mentioned too often in press, they had some printouts showing diff between AA and non-AA versions of K5II - didn't use them as marking tool - look carefully at pentaxforums.com interview, you see this printout from an angle without zooming in, but even that you can see sharpness difference for allegedly non-AA version. As for many years with Pentax, people don't really know what their plans are, what to expect, usual poor communications for Pentax.
Question for now is, how well K5II will prove to be a stopgap, how many Pentax current users looking for camera change it will keep, will it bring some new customers (especially with lack of some lenses), will see.
Definitely with two recent Nikon products (D800, D600), they lost some people to other DSLR "providers", Fuji and Oly had and I think will have some nice share with their new product (Fuji) or hopefully another great product to come (Oly).

John, I think you completely missed the point, it was not going to be review or even comparison between Hasselblad and Pentax, it doesn't say that, does it?
If you read brief description of this movie it says what is this about (not a review or P comparison), worth starting with that.
In fact, not a bad movie to remind about film cameras and a bit about working with that kit.
Now I just wait when you say that I shouldn't use name Hasselblad on this forum, hehe .

Avoiding bashing Pentax for poor AF, etc.
Biggest problem I see with Pentax is lack of clear info to customers (well, you would have to say "loyal" ones not many others Pentax have now) about plans and future. People don't know what products they are going to make, years long FF discussion is best example, lenses are missing from portfolio an instead of filling obvious gaps they produce some telescope, TC is still non existing, etc.
They are not going to bring new people on board if they can't show them why it is worth to invest in Pentax, sorry, but saying for so many years that panaceum for problems is using old, manual (good) lenses will work only sometimes, as Chris said above, community should have been less accepting, not sure if that would make a difference though.
And I don't care how many times owner of this brand changed, I was hoping for new one to quickly and firmly say to all customers what to expect for next years and why hold to P, but they failed (IMHO).
Another great example, just see this interview with Pentax engineer about SDM failures:
http://www.pentaxforums.com/news/jens-petersen-on-pentax-sdm-failure.html
So they say lenses produced from 2012 should be fine, did it really require so many years?, or maybe no problem because people can still use manual lenses? This is quite symptomatic of Pentax in last years, unfortunately, effect is, people either wait for years for new product that will tick some boxes for them - and get frustrated and keep bashing Pentax on different forums , or move away.

Exactly, this is not the cost, but fact that they wasted time, money to design something that probably less that a 1% of users will buy, instead of filling gaps in lens portfolio that would make more sense, examples earlier in the thread.I can't understand why so many seem so surprised by the cost of this lens. ... If Pentax would have good lens lineup then it wouldn't matter, they could produce any lens or telescope they want for any ridiculous price, but they are not there and it would be good if they would introduce product that at least 10% users would buy, more sense this way.
This time squirrel found you.
Nice one.
Nice one.

If I need a medium telephoto for the Pentax I have the DA55-300 or the DA*60-250, I have the 300 for longer.
60-250 is too short for many wildlife shooters or plane spotters, some sport and action ones as well, not to mention its AF is just slow (and I know it, I have this lens and had 55-300 as well). If I need a medium telephoto for the Pentax I have the DA55-300 or the DA*60-250, I have the 300 for longer.
300 is big longer, but still not enough, also it is level below in terms of IQ and speed.
So what ens do you take to get 400-500mm range on your Pentax and decent speed - maybe even enough to use TC ?

Maybe old, but not a bad performers, if Pentax would have comparable lens (or even betteR), don't mind if it would be old, many of use use old Pentax lenses anyway, right? , then it would be different discussion, but they don't have it. Also sony 70-400SG is a very nice one.The Canon 100-400 and Nikkor 80-400 are both quite old...
Ok, 70-200 f/2.8 with TC - great (and Nikon and Canon 70-200/2.8 are wery good lenses), but, do we have in production good, SDM compatible Pentax TC?, lets ignore slow SDM focusing for this matter.
As for sobering, here you go:
Nikkor 500mm f/4 VR lens - £5300
Sigma 500mm f/4.5 - below £3000

I'm not sure in what sense I am wrong? I didn't argue for or against a long telephoto v. a longer zoom, did I (which is what you seem to be implying)?
There was a small mindshortcut on my side. What I was saying is that I don't believe "you cannot win" is the case (as you suggested). As this Pentax products it stands now seems to be aiming at less than 1% of Pentax population. If it would be at least 10% then I could say - yeas, some people will like it like that some not - fine, but if it is targeting such a minority of us then I prefer they used time and money to develop something more useful for us.I'm not sure in what sense I am wrong? I didn't argue for or against a long telephoto v. a longer zoom, did I (which is what you seem to be implying)?
Womble, in this particular case you are wrong. Should Pentax actually had full lens portfolio then it would be a great addition, but as they lack for so many years in good, long telephoto zoom (something longer and better IQ than anyway great 55-300) and instead of sort this out they add something that probably 1% of Pentax users are going to buy, it just doesn't make a sense.
Myself and as far I know some number of Pentax users would seriously consider 80-400, 100-400 or so lens, that would be comparable to similar offering from Nikon, Canon, Sony. I don't think many of us will seriously consider paying that much for such a lens. Lets get back on the ground, which Pentax users are they trying to please with such a product?, ones that keep talking that all that is needed is manual focus? (they will not buy this lens anyway), those that could considering moving to Pentax, but will not as they don't find lens they may need here?, 1% others that may have this cash to spend?.

Exactly, Pentax users need reasonable priced long zoom lens (and probably around 400mm good prime at comparable price), similar to what other systems have (80-400mm, or 100-400mm, or around), not a specific lens with such price, not sure who were they aiming at with this.Just a re-badged Tokina 80-400mm would do

Btw, according to american online shops its weight is just around 3kg, pretty light then...

Finger didn't tap enough, D7000
But still arguable , for some people K5 was better, for some D7000 (because of AF, lens choice, etC).
