This is a VERY interesting effect that, in a few seconds, asks more questions than my young grandson does. And, as usual not too many good answers come from me.

Is there really a strobe effect on the wheels? Doesn't it look more of a spiral effect for each revolution (8?) of the wheel in the 1/6 of a second exposure and the length of the spiral being the difference of the panning movement in relation to the the speed of the car?

BUT:

- Why do the wheels and other highlights stretch out but the car and driver appear relatively static?

-Why is there an opposite background curvature at the top and the bottom of the photo?

-Why is the car blur horizontally straight while the track of the wheels is curved?

-Why does the track of the front wheel curve in a different arc direction than the track of the rear wheel?


Why, why, why...no kidding a brain teaser! But what ever the reason, this is a VERY interesting photo and there is nothing better than a picture that makes you think. What I think is; "ignoring the bad pan" is likely ignoring the answer.

My wife and I have very similar cameras. She likes telephoto and for practical purposes I am learning to love wide. It stretches us both composition wise and when we want the other's lens we just switch cameras. So fast and easy, and we don't end up with a whole bunch of very similar photos. If you are fussy about who's photos are who's, just write down the frame #'s or swap cards too.

If I was you John, I would bring both the fisheye and the 12-24mm because they are both so very different and you will be in a place with a whole new world of opportunities. Besides, you seem to really like them both.

Of course, if I was you...who the hell would be me? (and do you think Sue would let me use her camera?)

Well, that IS great news. I have religiously been checking the same Pentax roadmap site you posted and I have never seen a release date mentioned there (and still don't). Doing a Google confirms it is indeed to be released at the end of May and just in time as I'm going to the Victoria BC, Tall Ship Festival at the end of June. PURRRFECT! Thanks for the info guys, I appreciate it.

Glad I've moved all the way up to "common knowledge" now.

Where did you hear that amilner? I have been looking at that lens sitting on the Pentax Roadmap for almost two years now with nothing listed about it other than categorized as "Future DA Lenses" I'd love to hear that it is soon to be released and LOVE to find out it is as good as the 50-200mm DA.

I'm going to take a guess here but I assume by the fact that you own an older camera that you also have older batteries. I used to have the same problem but it was solved when I dumped my high capacity charger and bought a high quality charger.
