Thanks John a local dealer sometimes has the odd Pentax lens in I will keep and eye on what stock he has and on the forum. I did purchace a 135 3.5 smc m lens from him a year or so ago which is quite a nice copy and dont think it was very much money. I dont mind the need to set up the exposure and shutter speed settings to be fair.

[quote:3496ace15f="johnriley"]It's one of my favourite Pentax lenses, an excellent performer.

However, used on a DSLR it is less convenient than an A series lens as it has no "A" on the aperture ring. This means we have to meter manually. I find that a pain so would prefer the rather rarer SMC Pentax-A 100mm f2.8 instead. Same optical configuration but it works fully with the metering system.[/quot

Any idea what sort of money they bring John ?.

A friend of mine was asking if this lens woudl be any good on his Sony dslr - I had to admit that I didn't have a clue but now I will direct him to look at these

Nice shots
I think the lens is value for the money to be fair, however if your freind can sorce a used 18/250 Tamron then I feel he would have a better range if he can get one at a good price.

Would not the fact Pentax are looking to reduce the sizes of there digital slr cameras in future meen that any one wanting to upgrade. Would also encounter the need to purchase lenses to suit the camera thus leading to more expense. I have the k100 D and the Kr and are happy with the size and feel of both and would not upgrade if the cameras were reduced in size as I have built up a nice little kit and do not wish to have to start again.

Smaller bodies do not have to mean a new lens system, although if they went mirrorless, they would probably have to introduce new lenses specifically designed for that, and provide an adapter for use of older lenses.

It seems inconceivable to me that they would leave existing Pentax lens owners high and dry, but I'm sure they wouldn't be against providing an incentive to invest in new lenses as well!
Thanks for that feed back, however I much prefer the feel of the cameras I have and can not see me purchasing a smaller body. Why do they feel the need to reduce the size any way ?.
