I am selling my spare K3 body and am open to offers
There is a problem with the body which I explain below:-


Manufacture date 26/11/14. Bought new in December 2014 from SRS.
Shutter actuations are 3583.

Last July the camera was sent to Johnsons, Pentax Repair Centre, for a warranty repair because the auto focus (AF) phase detection system was not working. The live view AF was still working ok.

Johnsons stated it was not a warranty fault as damage to the tripod bush had caused the phase detection Auto Focus (AF) function not to work. Their estimate for repair deemed it uneconomic to proceed.

The camera was reassembled and returned to me.
The current state is that

the camera AF now appears to work.- whatever Johnsons did has improved it!
A tripod quick release can still be attached to the tripod bush.
Auto Focus using live view works normally.

The camera works fine except for

1. the EV value does not appear in the viewfinder or on the top plate when used in manual metering mode. maybe there is a setting I can change but haven't found it yet.
2. the tripod bush has been damaged.- see photo.
I think the cause was using a photo walking pole and putting too much pressure on the camera to keep it steady in an Orkney gale. I feel embarrassed admitting it!

I kept the camera as a spare but am now considering upgrading to a K1, hence this model is for sale

The sale is for the body only in the original box with a printed instruction manual.

The strap, battery, charger , and software are not included. These can be obtained from Pentax dealers, online or using independent brands. Software and instruction manuals can be downloaded.

There are no marks on the body except for the rubbing mark around the tripod socket from a Gitzo quick release locating pin as shown on the photo.

In effect this is a nearly new camera which works fine except for the two items above.
I have described the faults as I know them as accurately as possible

I have followed David's advice and upgraded ACR to 4.6 on photoshop CS3. and can now read the K3 DNG files in CS3.

The previous version of ACR 4.0 had allowed me to open camera raw DNG files from a K5 and even a 645Z.
Does anyone know what is different about the K3 DNG files?

I would be grateful for advice .
I have lightroom 3.6 and photoshop cs3. which has camera raw 4.0
I always shoot RAW in DNG format.

I rarely use photoshop but it seems that it will not recognise the K3 DNG files.- I get a message ' not the right kind of document'.
The files open in LR 3.6.

I found an Adobe document saying that to read K3 raw files I need Adobe Camera raw v 8.3 and LR 5.3 (.It was not clear whether they were referring to PEF files.)
However LR 3.6 will read the DNG files.

I am confused as I naively thought that DNG as an adobe product would be read in all their applications and be backwards compatible.
do I simply need to download ACR 8.3 and would that work with CS3?

Can someone explain what's happening?

I am selling my Pentax K20d. body which I have owned from new and bought from SRS.
It is boxed with all the accessories as supplied from new.

It has been replaced by newer models so it needs a new home.

It is in very good condition and has served me well and been very reliable.
The only blemish is that the rubber eyecup is a little loose.

Actuations are 29234.

The auto focus on my K3 appears to be faulty and I would be grateful for any advice as to the problem before I return it for repair under warranty.
I wonder if I have an incorrect setting somewhere or have hit the wrong button!

The symptoms occur with sdm lenses and screw drive lenses but all these lenses work fine on a K5. The problem appears to be with the K3 body.
The camera tries to focus but the lenses hunt , as on a macro lens trying to focus.The diamond focus confirmation does not appear in the viewfinder if I focus manually.
I have tried the different focus modes AF, AFC and different focus AF points.

However it works ok in live view. I never use live view so that was a surprise when I just tried it.

I saw on the US forum a reference to cleaning the focus detector on the base of the mirror box but am a bit reluctant to do that.

I spoke to SRS who had not come across the problem and suggested a try a reset. Again I am not rushing to do that as all the lens AF adjustment settings will be lost.

Has anyone experienced this problem or can give advice for solving it.
