Has anyone found a good way of using the combo listed in the title?

I have my K5 with grip paired with a DA* 60-250. I like to use a sling so have tried to mount it to the lens tripod mount. No matter where I put it, it's in the way! I find it hinders my ability to zoom.

Without the grip I tend to mount the tripod foot backwards. Can't do that with the grip because the grip is in the way. Only other option is to mount the sling on the grip which I'm reluctant to do for the obvious lens mount strain it would cause.

Anyone got a neat solution?

It's not just you and Flickr is indeed sharpening.

Annoyingly, it will sharpen the images more or less depending on the size you upload, and the size it is viewed at through their site. My best guess is that this is to give the "best" image possible on a wide set of platforms (Facebook, iPhone, Android, Mac, PC, different browsers etc.)

I must admit to being a bit of a lurker. I don't always feel I have a great deal to add to threads, but will post if I feel I do.

I've bought a few items through the forum and sold one. I also posted a few pics recently in "Your Photos"

The main problem though is that I just don't get out with my camera enough at the moment to be truly immersed in photography! That will change though

The other thing to consider with third-party grips is that they (as far as I know) are not weather sealed, whereas the genuine Pentax ones are. This would mean that were you to expose the camera + third-party grip to rain, the connector between grip and body could get wet and potentially short some pins. I bought my third-party grip with the view of if I like it, I will buy the Pentax one. I just keep spending my money on lenses instead

Went along on the Saturday. Really wanted to see the Vulcan and the two Lancasters. Unfortunately the Canadian Lancaster had engine troubles so wasn't flying I enjoyed the day, but it certainly isn't a patch on RIAT. Photography-wise, I found it a difficult day. Not used to the DA* 60-250 yet and with difficult lighting, I struggled. What I post here is the best of a bad bunch in truth. I found exposure particularly difficult. I was using aperture priority at f11 and ISO 400. Perhaps that was my problem?

I've seen the Red Arrows display a few dozen times over the last few years. Finally I got to see them fly the "loser plan" as the wife of one of the pilots went into labour.

I recently bought the DA* 60-250 from another forum member. The next day I found myself in St James Park, London, so I took a few snaps. It's amazing how tame the wildlife there is. The ducks, geese, squirrels and pigeons will all walk right up to you! Anyway here are three snaps from the park. It's a lovely lens and I look forward to getting even better results from it in future. I think I've found that it overexposes on bright scenes, but I'm still getting used to it.

Some slight tweaking of exposure and presence in Lightroom. I also have a fondness for the vignette effect sometimes, but hope I haven't overdone it.

Comments welcome.

OK, so this one was actually at the Palace...

Hi there,

I have a Pentax DA 55-300mm for sale right now. It's this one: link

Asking price is £170 including postage with UPS. It's more than your offer there, but it seems to be the going rate right now for this excellent lens.

It's not WR - only the brand new Pentax DA 55-300 HD WR will get you that in this level of lens. Currently over £300 new I think.

Here's my sale thread with a photo: link

Three items for sale – I need to fund a pair of DA* lenses I recently bought (oops!). All prices include shipping to UK with UPS. Any questions, feel free to PM me or to reply to the thread and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. I'd rather sell to a forum member, but if no interest here I will sell through eBay.

Thanks for looking,

Will

Pentax DA 55-300mm

Bought from a forum member here a few years ago. Lens is in great condition and comes boxed with the soft pouch, hood, front and rear caps. This lens has been a joy to own and use. I am half tempted to keep hold of it as a great lightweight option, but needs must...

Jessop MC 1.7x Pz/AF Teleconverter

I've had this a good few years now. In great condition. Works with screw drive lenses and of course has all the lens contacts. It also has the power zoom contacts so will work with power zoom lens and body combos. In theory it might work with SDM/DC/HSM lenses. Being honest though it doesn't auto focus, when hand held, with my DA* 60-250 or 16-50 – it drives the motors properly but never truly achieves focus. With a screw drive lens it focuses just fine. Includes both caps and a leather(ette?) case.
