K5 + Grip + 60-250 + sling = tripod mount in the way!

Has anyone found a good way of using the combo listed in the title?

I have my K5 with grip paired with a DA* 60-250. I like to use a sling so have tried to mount it to the lens tripod mount. No matter where I put it, it's in the way! I find it hinders my ability to zoom.

Without the grip I tend to mount the tripod foot backwards. Can't do that with the grip because the grip is in the way. Only other option is to mount the sling on the grip which I'm reluctant to do for the obvious lens mount strain it would cause.

Anyone got a neat solution?

I can't quite envisage your situation, would this sort of set-up help?

It's a Manfrotto 293 support

Ah yes a photo would help! Here's the setup. Come to think of it, the fact that the sling is fitted makes no difference to the problem. The problem will occur any time the foot is fitted underneath the lens. My left thumb collides with the foot when I want to zoom from one end to the other.

That bracket may help but it would make my setup even more bulky.

Turn it round 180 degrees so it points up, not down!

Ooh that looks interesting. Seems like it could solve the problem perfectly, although another $50 + P&P! It is actually way smaller. That plate on the bottom is not included. It's just the bracket bit that's in your first link. That then has the 1/4" tripod mount on it.

That might work for the zooming problem, but it creates a new one where the sling drapes over the camera. It then just puts the sling straps in the way - either of the eyepiece or the rear screen while holding.
