I get quite dismayed when you ask someone what they do and they say they are 'only' a cleaner/barman/etc.

All jobs require doing and I think anyone who does a job (paid or unpaid) and does it with dedication and professionalism deserves the same respect, regardless of what the job entails.

In fact the weird thing in life is, the less I do the more I get paid!
Their answer may be a sign that they don't find the job very fulfilling.
Some people like undemanding jobs so they can use the time at work to think of other things - some such as barman/chashier for the social interaction it gives them. Others are less capable and might find those roles quite demanding, they probably wouldn't describe their job as only...

I think most of us can also think of jobs where society might be better of if they weren't being done! (I guess the list here will depend on a persons veiwpoint)

I've no idea why but when mixing extension tubes and x2 converters I found that :-

Camera - x2 - tube - lens gave a different distance from camera to subject than
Camera - tube - x2 - lens

I've not been able to rationalise the maths though

The two set ups are actually quite different. The first will give higher magnifications, as the tube is working with a shorter focal length. (It's approximately twice as effective)

Having gone back & read the posts I'd missed at the bottom of the first page...

Yes, longer focal lengths give you a longer working distance, though require more work to get the same magnification.

If the macro teleconverter is similar to my two, (I have both 2x PK & 3x PKA versions) it's a useful addition to the macro amoury. It's basically a variable extension built into a teleconverter, giving a second focusing ring. It can be used in conjunction with your current extension tubes giving different effects depending which side of the TC you put them.

If both the 50mm & 135mm are set at infinity then adding 135mm extension to the 135 will give the same magnification as 50mm extension on the 50. (life size reproduction)
When the lenses focusing is adjusted that (effectively) includes some extra internal extension, and so complicates matters. In most cases adding extension is exactly what the focusing mechanism does, but 'internal focusing' lenses are different hence the 'effectively'.

Lovely set.
I'd be tempted to crop 2-5 slightly. The majority of the background is nicely out of focus, but the left edge draws my eye slightly.
I think the last is my favorite, but I'd have been proud to have got any of them!

Thanks Mike, any particular make?
I've got several models (Helios, BPM & pheonix??) though it may be the case with all of them.
Coker's tip might well solve my problem anyway, (thanks Roger!) must make sure I remember it.

I've not got the same model, but some of my bellows foul on the flash housing.
I have to use a short extension tube before the bellows to get them to fit.

expect the 645 lenses to go up... in value... if Pentax brings out a medium format sized k-01...
I imagine a bigger, chunkier k-01, weathersealed, packaged with your choice of K or 645 or 6x7 lens adaptors... with a large sensor that may wind up being cropped to fit image circle for the size lens you mount...
so a 40 mp sensor might give you 30 mp ff k mount... 22 mp aps-c kmount or 40 (or better) mp medium format...
and as I said.. seperate adaptors for each mount for the same medium format evil class body..
priced to compete with Canikon's ff offerings!
and yes an evf..
Pentax releases the Mother-of-all-Evil's!
That sounds worth selling TWO of the kids into slavery!

It'd be interesting to hear what you bought (cameras and lenses) and why you moved on from them (when you have the time - it sounds like an opus) !
Me too, along with any advantages the others might have had. You return shows these were obviously out weighed by the handling of the K5/7.

My own experience of the dark side is very limited, I believe CaNikon AF is better, but trying to help members of the local camera club find basic options in their menus does not tempt me to switch...
