Received today, clean and tidy and all appears to be a good working order. Thank you.

I agree about losing the movie mode. I've always thought it could be useful, and I suppose it's nice to know it's there. Maybe one day I'll find a reason to use it, but in the last 3 years that I've had that capability I have never once used it - not even as a test.
I bought my camera for stills photography, and would prefer other features related to that . . . . although apart from tethering and just an ongoing refinement of existing features I'm not sure what else I would want from my Pentax.

Well, I've got back from my trip to Mallory today and have gone through all the pictures I took, mostly with my DA* 300, with a few on the DA* 50-135 (some with the 50-135 + Tamron 1.4 teleconverter).

I spent the whole day with SR turned off, using a shutter speed of 1/1000, and came away with high proportion of decently sharp images. So for me, an early indication (although obviously a lot more experimenting to be done) that the K5 IIs and DA* 300/50-135 combinations both worked well with SR off.

If any of you have any more comments about the use of SR, I'd be glad to hear them.

To be fair though your question wasn't whether the K-5/II could take sharp panning pictures at a shutter speed of 1/1000th but more does SR affect the sharpness I would hope most DSLR's could take a sharp picture panning at that sort of speed.

Had you taken 50% of the pictures wit SR on then you would have had your answer.
Quite right, and that was my original intention, but then on the day I decided to do the whole thing with no SR enabled
I'll be trying to get out over the weekend to experiment a bit with different shutter speeds and SR on and off. Otherwise I'll probably be at Donington over the bank holiday weekend and will try then.

The velcro straps on the lensbaby case could certainly be used on a belt, and with the zip top opening you should be able to open it without too much fear of a lens falling out. It may be a little large for what you are looking for, with a capacity for 4, maybe 5 limiteds, but the extra space could be used for spare battery or other oddments when you are out and about.

Chris,

I have only recently bought the 300, and Mallory on Sunday was the first motor sport event for it. I found the 50-135 AF was noticeably slower, and whilst it was still got some good shots with it, I soon reverted to the 300.
I decided that the next time I raid the piggy bank, maybe a da* 200 to partner the 300, or possibly investigate a 60-250 or Sigma/Tamron 70-200 2.8 if they lock on faster. But I've spent enough for now!

I find the 50-135 is capable of getting some great images, and although quite usable for action shots, ideally it should lock on faster.

Some samples from today (straight out of camera with no processing so far, but some cropping) - still room for improvement, I know, but generally getting better than previous efforts.

I've recently acquired one myself. I've not had the opportunity to do too much with it yet, but my initial impressions are good.
