Oh dear, I was beginning to suspect we were talking at cross purposes slightly...

You got rid of that piece of timber along the top, or at least the annoying bit. I thought that was what Pauly was referring to. You improved the comp without doing to much!

Agreed... for me, Aiki has hit the (rusty) nail on the head with her crop.

This is the crop I was getting at:

But after reading John's comments, now I'm not so sure! We can be in too much of a rush to make things punchy and simplifed sometimes...

I don't think the K7 is meant to threaten the Canon 5D, which is over 2K and then you are expected to pay 1-5K for L-Series Lenses.

But you're right, it makes sense for Pentax to really prioritise the quality and range of the lenses they offer. A top quality body is also needed though, so its a bit of a chicken and egg scenario.

Beautiful shot! I think the exposure/levels are spot on. My personal feeling would be to crop/zoom in slightly (so that the top and bottom of the shutter are not seen), simplifying the composition.

Probably best to 'see how you go'... you'll soon have an idea whether you want a wider lens, and longer zoom, or even a macro. The 50-200mm Pentax zoom is an obvious choice though, it must be said.

What Gwyn says makes sense, it has to be said. But Pentax do need to keep up with the Joneses (HD video, HDR etc) or they'll be left behind... and then there'll be no new lenses, ever

Perhaps from a business point of view, Pentax should come up with something intermediate between the K200 and the K20, including the gimmicks like HDR/HD etc, reserving the top drawer stuff like the pentaprism for the K7.

Yes, a flip screen would be great! (Should have been on the K7!)

Hmm… while they need to distance the camera from the K-7 a bit, so as not to impact on its sales, it’s hard to see which of the K-7’s main features they could plausibly leave out and remain a competitive option at £600-£800 RRP. Maybe a built in stereo mic rather than a mic socket, in line with a more ‘consumer’ spec. I guess the K-7 would remain attractive owing to it’s build quality/styling.

The only things I would like removed are the ‘art filters’!
