Andy, if you set your 'green button in manual' to 'TV Shift' (in custom settings), the green button will select the correct shutter speed in manual! Give it a go, it's almost like having AV mode!

But I think Niklas has found a limitation of the metering system when using non-A lenses... 3" is the limit of the shutter speed it displays / selects.

If this has an A, yes use that.

But, just in case you ever need to, you can use the aperture ring with older or non-A lenses as follows:

First you need to go into the custom settings in the menu, and set 'Using Aperture Ring' to 'Permitted'.

Then set the camera to 'M' - manual exposure mode.

Use aperture ring to set desired aperture.

Turn the DOF preview lever. The EV compesation will display -0.3 to +0.3, and you just adjust the shutter speed with the wheel until it shows 0.0.

I think I see what you mean having just tried it... it seems 3" is the min. shutter speed it wants to set... even with my hand over the lens my camera sets 3"

Not sure why this should be the case though!

If there's a solution which doesn't involve using a lighmeter or fitting an A lens to meter, I'd also be interested to know.

I believe it was 1 for every 14 persons in Britian or are this old numbers?
How many of the cameras are actually privately owned, and how much of the footage is actually ever seen by anyone, even if it is at all legible?

I speak as someone who was a victim of crime recently - and the only CCTV camera in the vicinity – which was privately owned – wasn’t working!

A wedding photographer will be doing all the group shots, so I'd be content with just the 50mm, because of its speed and superb quality, and the simplicity of shooting at one focal length. I might pack the 90mm for inside the church (shots of the bride and groom).

This is certainly not what I would take if I was supposed to be taking proper wedding photos - but it would keep me entertained and hopefully result in a few really memorable, superior images!

A bit small Jeanette but they look like great shots. Maybe no. 2 is a bit too bright... maybe somewhere in between the two:

The chimp shot is wonderful... perhaps not quite as sharp as some of the others but what a brilliant expression... great exposure and overall nice muted colour range.

I find myself a bit disturbed by its nipples though for some reason

I owned one of these for a while. Resolution was high, build quality and close focusing ability was nice, but I found its contrast low and the colour strangely cyany. Not everyone seems to experience these downsides though.

I sold mine once I got a Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 - which does everything I want at 24mm.
I must have a good one, cos I've had quite punchy, warm results (see first two shots here link), but I am sure you are right in that the Tamron is a better all round bet... I presume the OP is looking for a small (discreet to use for street photography etc) and low cost option though, or he wouldn't have considered this Sigma.

I'm looking forward to going to see the Banksy exhibition on Monday! I went with a friend a couple of weeks ago, but it was a Sunday afternoon and the queue to get in was two hours long. Fortunately, Banksy had been kind enough to provide a free sample of his artwork just down the road, on the side of what my friend informed me was an STD clinic (I didn't ask how she knew!)

All taken with Pentax K200D and either the Sigma Super-Wide II or the SMC-A 50mm. Linear polariser except for the skater shots. C&C's and mods welcome... I'll be back with more after my return visit.
