Thanks for all the comments...the light for photography was not good..I had a few more out of focus shots than usual..but considering the weather.. I was more than happy with the K5 II.

A wet dull day at Oulton Park for the Gold Cup on Monday. Here are a few photos all taken with my k5 II and sigma 100-300mm f4.

Here are 2 photos from yesterdays test day at Donington Park for the new all electric formula e cars..these cars will be racing in China next month. and around the world in city centres in another 9 races over the next year.
Taken with Pentax k5 II and sigma 100-300 f4.

1..I have been trying to take a shot like this for many years..but the view is on race days usually blocked by a tractor to recover cars.

Thanks, all.

Paul, one of the reasons car racing stopped in the early 1980s is that it became unsustainable, not least because errant drivers kept damaging Grand National fences and leaving organising clubs with sizeable bills.

Nowadays, I understand that motor racing's governing body - the MSA - won't license the final corner, Club, for car use. I'm not wholly sure of the reason - it might be related to the proximity of a public road.

Like the photos.. number 7 is a great shot..you mention that cars no longer race here...do you know the reason why?

Some nice details there, Paul. I know it can be hard to get clean action shots from behind the debris fencing at Silverstone - other UK circuits are better in this respect - but at least the Classic allows decent access to cars and drivers.

I'm also interested to note your use of a Sigma 100-300mm f4, my lens of choice for pretty much everything nowadays: it means there were two Pentax-fit examples being used in the same place on the same weekend, which is probably some kind of record...
Thank you Simon..it was my first time at the classic..I spent most of my time around the paddock areas..as you say you can really get close to the cars and drivers. I find the 100-300mm f4 lens..to be very good.
